 While shooting for the Birds III challenge I decided to try and get some Nature Abstract shots too. I got a few motion blur shots that I liked and then increased the speed and aperture to shoot some more for the bird challenge. I took this shot just to see if my settings were right with no intention to keep it as the bird (some sort of Spoon Bill) was flying away from me. I got the whole bird in the frame but when I was about to delete it I decided to zoom in on the camera view screen and thought this was my abstract shot.

I know that this will not be considered abstract by those who believe you should not be able to recognise the subject for me the composition, tones and shapes (both bird and background) fits my interpretation of the theme. I don’t really know enough of formal artistic interpretations to know if I’m right so I will probably seek the DPC community to give their opinions after the challenge. I’m a little excited about this shot and would love to see it in my top five.

Post challenge:

Very disappointing. Not so much with the score but that it was so boring that it received no comments. Oh well.

Poor empty white box! Here are some squiggly black things for you. I gave a 7, honestly thought it was some type of banana leaf at first. Really like that spooky bokeh background.
