Taken in the same location as my Hope Challenge :D //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=99783

This is also a nice lesson in two photographs being taken in exactly the same location (to within a foot or two) and having completely different feels.

I wonder if anyone notices.

Being that the challenge stated 'of your chosen destination'. I wanted to take a photo that represented another country (Knowing how people vote on titles I would hardly get far had I called it 'batford UK' :D)

We have quite a few rolling hills etc that I toyed with, but this seemed to work best.

I have it in black & white and it rocks - but decided to submit a colored up version for DPC.

Also note this is my first shot with my new ND grad Cokin attached! I love it.

Hey Jon - well done on the placing and yes, I suppose I've become too retouch conscious! And thanks for pointing it out in the thread. ; )

Congrats on a top-ten finish Johnny.
Rich colors and unusual composition make this shot pop!

beautiful.
09/12/2004 11:33:54 PM
Absolutely stunning! This one goes to the top of my list!

P.S. This one is my bet for the blue ribbon.
09/12/2004 11:10:32 PM
Beautiful and simple image. Very appealing.

Outstanding image, I like it a lot. If there would be something to change, it would maybe be the position of the tree, maybe not a central position??? I'm not sure. I'd guess this will end up high, maybe it will get a ribbon.
09/12/2004 04:30:45 PM
Putting the tree centered was a brave move, but it works. The gradual darkening of the image toward the edges works well, too. 10

Now that really catches the eye.Great shot

This is a very great shot. I love the contrast of colors between the foreground and the blue sky. Ever without the tree, it would be a great shot. The only point that I would have against it is the horizon line. It appears that it is lower on the right. Not sure if it is, but there looks like a hill farther off that is close in color to the foreground and makes it look higher there.
09/11/2004 07:39:44 PM
Ummm, did you let your editing program get away with you on this one? Maybe a bit oversaturated and stuff... Still, a good idea.
09/11/2004 05:29:40 PM
The sky here is openly overprocessed, so I won't say that it looks obvious! There's a touch of Six Feet Under about this with the solitary tree. Nicely observed - although as a travel guide image it loses points just a bit due to its lack of obvious attraction beyond an ordinary landscape - albeit made special in Photoshop.
09/11/2004 01:19:15 PM
Great colours and cracking sky. I`m not sure about the composition maybe to much sky or is it the tree to central. 8

This is nice. I wish I had taken such a nice shot when I was there. Brings back memories.
09/11/2004 10:03:33 AM
10 love it! perhaps a little heavy on the burn at the top, but really great composition.
09/11/2004 12:43:19 AM
What you have done with the colors is gorgeous. Have you ever watched the shoe 6 feet under? I think this is the opening shot. Good luck.
09/10/2004 04:30:41 PM
My favorite of the challenge, and my only 10! I really like the shades of blue, and how they contrast with the orange ground. Congrats on a spectacular image!
09/09/2004 03:45:03 PM
I'd lighten up that dark cloud on the top of the picture to make it even better! Good job nonetheless!
09/09/2004 12:05:40 PM
gorgeous coloring
09/08/2004 02:30:36 AM
One of the best in the challenge! (10)
09/07/2004 10:33:32 PM
Gorgeous shot! I love the colors and the contrast, I just am a bit thrown off by the heavy burnt in sky! Still a 7 from me, and good work!
09/07/2004 02:45:01 PM
Wow, I love composition, colors..... The tree being not the most spectacular object is the key of the picture. Congratulations!!!
09/07/2004 10:05:46 AM
Too saturated for my tastes.
09/07/2004 07:52:28 AM
This is such a beautiful shot. The only thing that is distracting for me is how light the sky is at the bottom and how dark it is at the top. If you want to edit that, you can select all of the blue parts of the sky, adjust curves until just the top looks good, then apply a gradient mask downward to apply the change more to the top of the sky than to the bottom. But that could be a lot of trouble to go through to marginally improve an already beautiful image.
09/07/2004 04:44:22 AM
composition would be better if the tree would not be in the center.

This hot has wow factor, good job. Was the sky above the clouds really that dark or did you do some burning?
09/06/2004 09:10:06 PM
simple and nice, well done
09/06/2004 05:34:57 PM
An exquisite picture! Beautifully composed. I'm assuming that it was the terrain, but there is a slight tilt of the horizion, but I don't think it detracts from the scene too much.
09/06/2004 01:43:42 PM
Stunning. 10
09/06/2004 01:07:05 PM
Great composition!!! (May be a tiiiiiny bit over-polarized)
09/06/2004 01:03:08 PM
Beautiful shot. However if you had put the tree slightly to the left or the the right this would have been a 10. As is it is too centered.
09/06/2004 12:23:49 PM
The color and simplicity are amazing. Stunning shot!
09/06/2004 07:58:18 AM
This would make a great postcard! I love the contrast and clarity.. top marks from me! Good luck!
09/06/2004 06:37:47 AM
Very beautiful colors. Perhaps to much burning on the top?
09/06/2004 05:52:07 AM
Such a beautiful shot, colors are wonderful. And yet I feel as if it would have benefited if the tree weren't so dead center. Great job.
09/06/2004 04:12:15 AM
Very impressive composition bordering on minimalist with just the tree. The sky is distracting with the very dark portion above the cloud and the lighter part below. I think that will hurt this photo the most.
09/06/2004 02:36:23 AM
sooo pretty
09/06/2004 02:10:23 AM
Powerful and eye catching. 10
09/06/2004 01:41:14 AM
very nice contrasts and bold saturation. might not be to everyone's likeing, but i think it suits your picture well. nice job.
09/06/2004 12:44:41 AM
wow!! I don't know what else to say, but wow!! Impressive colors, my eyes float right across the photo as the clouds appear to be doing. I love the little tree standing alone. Just...wow! I'm not a member and have never commented on a member challenge...if it gives me the option to rate this, you will see a 10 from me!
