Challenge: Glasses II (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: *Challenge Entries 2012
Camera: Canon EOS-550D Rebel T2i
Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS
Date: Mar 21, 2012
Aperture: 6.3
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/40
Date Uploaded: Mar 20, 2012

Long setup after getting off work at midnight... 2 clamps and a gorilla pod to get the glasses right and a half hour of trying different shots.. but it came together in the end though post was difficult for me... i tried a direct B&W filter and loved it but knew it wasn't finished so i went with long edits instead

[Mar. 21st, 2012 11:07:16 AM]

though the word on the street is low votes it's sticking above a 6 so i suppose that's good; i expected better as i really like how this one turned out... i'm going to reprocess in B&W like i originally thought and print it out...

[Mar. 24th, 2012 11:21:11 AM]

Noting that a couple have said that it's a bit too dark, and as a photo I agree... I woke up the next morning and immediately said "DOH!" and raised the exposure a bit... then i remembered that i had left it darker because i find it communicates the "voyeuristic" feeling a bit more as it is... we'll see how that works in the end!

[Post Challenge]
Very Excited to be in the TT! it's only the second time! Though I must admit I am a bit shocked to see so many one's and two's... oh well that's that! Thanks for all the great comments and votes!

Nice shot Chris, good concept and attractive model :-)

I might have been tempted to crop it in Landscape instead of portrait to increase the impact, and of course lighten and brighten as has been mentioned - but still a good shot and a good finish.

Thank you all very much for the comments - at the end the brightness might have cost me the ribbon. And the only reasoning for the 1's and 2's that I can imagine is that some people might have disliked the sexy look? Anyway, without them I wouldn't have gotten my first DPC BLING thanks to NiallOTuama!!!

I'm thinking of a reshoot in a different environment (this was shot in my bedroom with half the tripod on the bed and 3 pillows helping hold the glasses device)

Once again thanks so much for the comments, they're helping me along this bumpy road of photography!

It is better darker. Glad you stuck with what's best for the photo and not what's best for the score. Next you'll start using backgrounds!

You get yourself this

'cause you had the most randomness in the votes you received.

But in a personal note I thought this was very well done and very creative. I might have touched the exposure and gotten more of an interaction with the subject and the camera, but that would take away from the voyeuristic feel you were going for of course. Don't worry about the 1's and 2's. The bling you get in this challenge says that the votes you got were the most random in this challenge. That means you get a lot of low votes and a lot of high votes.
Great image. Delighted to see this do well!

Can't believe this didn't score higher! This should have ribboned, in my opinion.
I loved this shot, and still think it's a 10.

...you mean they're FAKE?? *disappointed* ;-)
Great finish! Very creative and well executed, but for some subjective nuances. Yeah, what's with the troll votes on this? I'd enjoy seeing your alternate processed shots and/or outtakes.

the setup was
1. fix the glasses in place as noted
2. carefully cut the shirt around where we remembered the frames were on her body
3. reposition her for about 15 minutes until she complains that she's tired
4. shoot quickly

Loved the idea. A tad brighter and this may have done even better! Congrats on the top 10!

Clever, but ultimately, for me, a fairly dull photo.

Perfect execution of the X-ray effect. I find myself wanting the image a bit brighter, but that's just a nit pick on this image.

6 for it being a super creative idea! If this were a little brighter with more dimensional light and a better composition, it would be fantastic!
