 From my first visit to the Mojave Preserve for my residency. This is the 3rd largest National park in the lower 48 - 1.6 million acres. The thought of photographing its vast emptiness is more than a little daunting. And it is FAR!!! almost three hours each way, plus any driving in the park.

As my maiden trip, it was more of an exploratory visit as I had no idea what awaited me. As suspected, everything in the park is incredibly far apart, and impossible to see until you are upon it. Most of the interesting stuff we discovered just by driving down unmarked, dirt roads, some of which dead-ended or became impossible to navigate.

This was down one such road, and appears to be a well vent in a land fill area which was fenced off. I reached over the fence to capture it. We were told that skies in the desert are unrelentingly blue, with clouds rarely seen. We were fortunate.

Lovely shot. The processing is amazing. I'm sure there will be people who think it's over done, but I think it works well with this particular image. Not sure what that is in the middle of the posts, but it does portray a feeling of loneliness, especially given the title.
