Instructed my recruits to jump on the count of 3, but to do so without looking like they were jumping. I think they did a pretty good job. I just wish I had a better perspective...

[Mar. 9th, 2012 06:07:22 PM]

"I will give you a 3 count command, "1" will be your preparatory command, "2" will will your command of execution to squat half-way while maintaining your arms in the position of attention, "3" will be your command of execution to jump 6" while still at the position of attention. Do I have any questions?

1...2...3 Doggone it, Pvt Burnhill, you jump like a rejected dolphin from seaworld! How about jumping at the position of attention?"

This has to be the 8th, 9th, 10th or 20th ish time I've looked at this - just a fantastic take on the challenge. Yeah, so the processing could be improved on this particular shot, but wth, who really notices it anyway when your eyes are riveted on this spectacle! And when you get it right, you REALLY get it right:

and you've got a sense of humour to boot:

Congratulations :)

I've returned, again.
Are they the grand children of the 82nd and 101st Airborne? :)

I keep coming back to this image and chuckling every time .. there is something (to me) so comical about these men, part of the greatest military force on this planet, suspending themselves in air. So fun, so well done and so very deserving of the blue ribbon. Congratulations!

Mike, why did you decide to introduce such an excessive blur on the sky and the grass? Obviously they were not present in the original image. It just feels weird and unnatural this way. How about the shadows? Do they seem off because of the blur you introduced in the image? Just curious why you chose to go down that route because the image just doesn't look right to me. Regardless, congrats on the blue.

Cool to have your own flight/platoon to command.

In 5.5 years of professional wedding photography, I have done exactly one group jump shot... and it was 9 guys in a single file line doing exactly what you have these guys doing :)

BWAHAHAHAHA, Love you're comments on the photo. Are you gonna share this with them? Basic training was pretty boring for me (Air Force, so it wasn't supposed to be that exciting, but still). This would have been fun to do.

Congrats.

The Charge of the Light Brigade? I think only a military group could do this this well. The closest things to hinting at a jump are: the flag man's feet (though it almost looks like he's walking), the the shoulders of the guy nearside of the front row (though it almost looks like he's just standing at attention). 10

03/13/2012 08:11:12 AM
Is this a real shot? If it is you did something wrong because it looks like two separate images, which is against the rules I think. If they all did jump in unison , you over did the post processing. Nice idea though, very unique!!

Makes me smile every time I look at it and bravo for these guys who almost all kept a straight face while doing this - something I would have been unable to do :) The group levitation works particularly well here, I think. One of my top picks.

Except for the unnatural blurring of the horizon, this one is perfection. Only a drill team would be so perfect. A little mystified at the dark spots on the ground. Looks like you may have burned shadows a bit to make it more "realistic". I don't think it was necessary.

This is an awesome idea, and it's impressive that everyone got their feet up at the same time. I'm just a little distracted by your overly blurry sky.
