Why animals in B&W? This is a very interesting challenge.

I took about few dozen expression shots and this is the one I like the most because of the teary eyes reflection effects from OOF.

Don’t mislead by the look, adult Pigtail Macaques are always very fierce.
Look how he stared ready to bite:

Now the tough question is - Will this image fair good votes? I got a brown previously for Macaque entry and will I get it again. I decided to let it “What will be will be”…. that’s the meaning of my title.

Critiques and comment are most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

You must be glad that you finished so well in this challenge, good work! I gave you a 7 in voting. I like the subject gazing up and out of frame, at what we can't see. The slightly agape mouth almost looks like he's as ready to talk as howl/screech/chatter. The eyes are disconcertingly human, but then we're not so far apart - after all we share 98% of our DNA with chimpanzees, so mr Macaque can't be much further away.

This is a fairly daring shot and it looks like that paid off. I don't see any comments indicating dead space to the left and he's tight to the right side of the frame...again kudos for not playing safe, it paid off here! I never even noticed before that you used a light sepia instead of b/ but that gamble also worked well.

Only nitpick is the OOF eyes, but you have lots of details there in the face and the eyes are so expressive, that you're forgiven :-)

Overall a very good shot that pushes the envelope, glad it worked out so well for you. Keep shooting and entering!

Feel free to PM me,

Susan

Loved this study, pushed into the side of the frame and forcing me also to look up. 9.

This just makes me laugh! It's a great shot. I'm ok with the sepia in a black/white challenge, but I do think it might cost you some points with some of the voters. If I were to really nit-pick; The sharp focus is on the teeth and it falls just a little soft in the eyes for me. My preference would be to have the eyes sharp. The background is perfect! A 9 from me! Good luck in the challenge!

absolutely love it! subject, tones and the composition are tops..minor quirk are the out of focus eyes but it doesn't take away from how strong the image is
