I was wondering if any one on DPC had any recommendations for taking photos in Cambodia. Other than the amazing Angkor Wat temple. I am leaving tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi Alex,

As I'm sure you are aware, Angkor Wat is just one of the many temples in the Angkor complex. I have been to the following temples: Prasat Kravan, Banteay Kdei, Ta Prohm*, South gate of Angkor Thom, Bagon*, Elephant Terrace*, Loperking Terrace, Angkor Wat*, Preah Khan*, Ta Som, East Medon and Pre Rup*. * = My favourites

Strongly suggest you get an early start each day. Take loads of water and a towel with you. Head back to the hotel around 11:00. Swim, have lunch and a siesta. Head back out again around 15:30. Angkor Wat at sunrise is well worth it. One of the temples (not sure which one) is up on a hill and is amazing for sunset.

In the town of Siem Reap there is a great market. Lots of colours and interesting people.

That is my two cents worth based on my experience there is Nov. 2004.

Enjoy and travel safe!

Anthony

I went to Cambodia in 1997. It was amazing! I can't wait to go back someday. Perhaps Tol Sleng prison in Phnom Penh? Or, the killing fields. Lot's of mines there, you could do something with a mine field, but watch your step.

Siem Reap and the Angkor complex are basically the same place. All the hotels are in Siem Reap. Not sure if there are any near the complex itself. If I remember correctly it took less than 30mins from the hotel to the complex

Alex,

Bayon, Ta Prohm & Angkor Wat are must sees.

I went in 2007 and would love to go again.

Have fun!

Wow what a coincidence I just got back after a one month stint around Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Be prepared for the oppressive heat and humidity, plus you are getting close to the beginning of the rainy season. We got a taste of the torrential rains already! Here are a few shots I have had time to process:

Not that into the heat and humidity BUT I'd saw off both off my legs to shoot in that weather, regardless.

Love Cambodia !! You will have a blast, so much to do and see and shoot.

Allow at least 3 - 4 days for Angkor Wat. Book the same Tuk Tuk driver for the whole time and he will look after you, even send you wake –up calls in the morning and in my case I was able to visit his family village.

I arranged for a car and driver through my hotel to take me from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh (very cheap) make sure your driver has good English and get him to stop at any little township along the way, great way to get in and mix with the locals but you may get a huge crowd following at times.

You MUST visit the killing fields and the genocide museum once in Phnom Penh.

I was there in October last year and had the most amazing time!
For Ankor it is just hard to take a bad photo, make make certain you do get out there for as many sun rise and sun sets as possible.
The Phenom Phen definatley go to the russian market (not the new markets) and a visit to S21 can not be missed.
Use a local guide. They cost very little and are incredibly helpful. Cambodia seems to be missing the Bangkok rip off guides so far.
The night markets and surrounding resturants at Siem Reip are also a must. Great food and very safe. Definatly try Doctor Fish! Great on the feet after a long day of photograhy.
Have a great trip.
