Not necessarily your highest scoring shot, in fact it could be a very low scoring entry. Rather, what is to you personally your most successful entry of the year, and why?
12/30/2009 04:07:07 PM · #2
My most successful, personally is:

Reason: I was trying to achieve a photo that met key requirements for composition: color, placement, DOF.

My most successful, by voting was and may also double for personal:

Reason: I got to shoot something creatively and I believe I achieved it. More importantly, I got a much higher score than I was expecting.

By a wide margin, it was this one for me:

Reasons:
1)Nailed one of my major goals, which was a 6+ with a humorous entry in a non-humorous challenge.
2)Top 10 with a blatant shoehorn (on several levels). I think I really knocked this one out of the ballpark, as I was not expecting better than a low 5.
3)A new personal record for in-challenge comments.
4)A new #2 on my profile page. (It's gonna be there for a while, so it's good that I like it!)

This was my best shot of 2009 I wanted to hit a blue in a FS and get a good score with the fisheye

it matches what i pre-visualized. editing was an instinctive, natural process. giclée print looks splendid.
i love it when things come together.

Hard to choose kind of. This one probably because it scored the highest and the actual scene is really pretty mundane, but the fog/editing spiced it up.

One of the first few images with my then newly bought dslr.. I think I was over the moon because my p&s's biggest problem was the way light would bleed into the subject's outlines.. to achieve an actual bokeh was a wow moment for me..

This is my favourite photo of this year - the colour, the light - the way the edit accentuates both, but most of all the composition - the image of the child with the very ominous looking figure in the background. Didn't do so well in the FS but it is one of the few I've had published on 1x.com.

I have 2..I'm proud of them both..One for the Blue ribbon I received..

and one for a new personal best....

This one:

But I have found some personal success with this one since my goal for 2010 is to ribbon with a portrait :D

I have two...

For this one, I never in a million years thought it would ribbon. It was a chaotic photo - just so much going on. It's really a "me" type of photo - just a slice of life shot. It's got my baby tho, so that's double sweet.

And for this one, I wanted to improve my IR skills. I was very happy with how this turned out.

For the Hidden Gem challenge:

Even though it was shot in 2006, it is just my favorite entry out of my 2009 challenge entries.

Some interesting stats for me for 09: Entered 11 challenges, 3 entries were Woody entries, 4 entries had my son Riley in them, 2 entries had my son Brian in them, 1 entry had me in it, 2 entries had fire in them and I had one Godzilla entry. I think 2010 will be the year of more fire.

For me personally it was this image. I tend to pre-visualize how I want a shot to turn out before taking it. With this one I got what I wanted.

Now that's a skill I don't have. Rarely do mine turn out how I visualized them. Often, it is just a pleasant surprise when I see how something worked differently than planned.

It was my first top 10 and a technique I hadn't tried before. Still one of my favorites--it's fun to be very proud of a shot.

My highest score of the year (sadly it was a low-scoring year for me):

It was also one of my personal favourites. The one that means most to me is in the bird challenge, so I can't show it.

One of my successes would have to be this one from the HDR II challenge -- first time I had ever done HDR, spent hours downloading and trying out various HDR programs, had very little idea about what I was doing, nothing seemed to work in the beginning, yet it turned out OK in the end.

This was a lucky capture. I was wandering around Toledo, Spain, which is a medieval city with narrow streets that intersect eachother randomly. I literally bumped into these kids. All the settings were wrong plus I was shooting with the Lensbaby 2.0 which is very hard to focus, but in the end I think that if anything was different with this photo it wouldn't work.

It's just one of those shots that made me feel electric...I love it when everything comes together at just the right moment and I'm able to capture it with one quick click.

1st Place and highest score for the year - 7.5759

12/30/2009 07:42:12 PM · #21

Not my best entry to date, but nothing to be ashamed of either... I haven't participated as much this year, but hope to increase that for 2010. :-)

Has to be this one for me.

Difficult challenge subject, horrible conditions, my lowest scoring ribbon, challenging post processing, and fulfilled a goal of winning a ribbon with a shot from Norway.

And I wasn't even shooting for this particular challenge at the time.

If this counts as the challenge/voting took place in 2009...this

If that doesn't count....then this one...I personally love it, but the voters hated it, lol! (Commenters loved it!)

Not the highest score nor the best position in a challenge but personally I love it!

This is the highest score

Since I'm new, there's not much to say here, my best thus far has been solidly in the 4's... Right now I do have an image in the bird challenge that looks like it will be something about 5.3 - So that will officially be my best of the year... But... I do think my Free Study image will do better-- We'll see...
