Very short notice... heh! Anyone want to meet up in Berlin this Sunday, 20 December, for a GTG? So far we have three - me, Zigomar, and Mephisto. If others are interested, we'll actually come up with a time and place to meet. :-)

Yaaay, bring it on!

Bah, wish I could. I will be driving from Baumholder to Steinbach-Hallenburg that day (near Oberhof where they do the WM Biatholon and ski jumping). Given more time I imagine my wife and I would try to take a Rein Air flight. They are usually only around 20 euro.

Bump!

I just booked a room somewhere. Hopefully it's not too far from a station of some kind... :-) Still haven't got the multi-million dollar train ticket yet. You must remember I have dollars, not Euro, and my dollars aren't worth a lot here these days!

I'm coming with £, how ironic.

So we're counting on Christoph to bring actual negotiable currency?

I guess the good Berlin pub owners will accept anything that has a picture of a queen or president on it ;-)

At least anything that looks like Euros will do the trick. I payed my last Kebab with a 200 (hungarian) Forint coin that looks like the 2€ coin. The owner thought it was a special collectors edition. ;-)

Anyway, so what are you guys up for in Berlin?
I think we should use a similar strategy Pawdrix uses for the NY GTG and avoid the tourist traps and instead I could show you some of the more "authentic" parts of this buzzling city (even though I'm far from knowing the city as well as Steve knows NY or Milosh knows Belgrade). I have a few ideas like the so called "East Side Gallery" which is the longest part of the Berlin wall that still existis, we could visit Kreuzberg aka "Little Istambul", then perhaps a small urban exploration trip to Beelitz-Heilstätten or to the NSA field station.
In the evening we could visit some cozy pubs and/or see an exhibition. or both combined in one...

We're meeting in Berlin not Munich, so Pilsner and Currywurst is the way to go! ;-)

Is it beer?
Then bring it on!

Ehrm, should I take my camera with me?

I contacted about 50 DPC'ers from all around Germany, Poland and Czech Republic so hopefully we'll have some company! :-)

Hi Guys,
I hope you have a great get together. Thanks for the invite and the PM's. I'll be thinking of you, but at such short notice and just before Christmas I can't make it. Remember it's silly season.

Hi, I am really interested although its a long way to Berlin and freezing cold... Will look into transportation now and decide later today.

I just sent you an email, Susanne - would love to have you join us if only for a little while, and I'll be staying in Berlin for a few days if you and your daughter want to sightsee, I'd be glad to tag along. :-)

If only this was in six months time!!
12/18/2009 05:04:16 AM · #22
In six months, Nick, you need to be planning to be in NYC at THAT get-together. :-)
12/18/2009 05:19:36 AM · #23
hmmm, looks like I may be getting to Europe via NYC. I could see me quite easily spending a week or two there... hmmm

Sorry, I won't be able to make it. It's impossible to find a reduced price deal on train tickets now, and regular is just too much for the 2 of us.
Hope, you'll have a great time!

Yes, it is rather expensive. I'm trying to do the online purchase from Die Bahn and have a Gutschein for 10 Euro off, but can't negotiate it on the site. So I guess I'll go to the train station tomorrow to get tickets.

I will definitely be in Frankfurt again before I leave Germany, though, so we will definitely have another outing!
