I'm not exactly sure if this is the correct place for this because it could be seen as another category but I'm posting it here because I would like for someone to take a look at the coding for bugs.

I'm starting this thread because I've been a victim of DPC automatically removing my submissions after I spend hours working on them. I've contact Langdon about it and we've discovered that it looks like I am clicking the unsubmit button but I assure you that I'm not. I'm also hoping that someone else has had this problem and could come forward with it to try and help solve this issue. OR maybe some others could try some of the ways I've been able to recreate this error and see if it happens to them as well.

My most recent issue was with the challenge tilt shift in which I submitted an entry, entered a title, a description, and so on then clicked submit button. After thinking more about my entry I decided to change the title of my entry by added some text after the name and clicking on "submit" once again. When the page refreshed my entry was missing along with all the text/information I had initially entered as if I had never submitted to the challenge. From there I had to go back through and reenter everything for the 2nd time. BTW I did get 2 emails for submitting to the same challenge.

Next to my most recent and after testing it some with Langdon I entered the Foliage challenge with a test image to see if I could get DPC to remove it for me. After messing around with all the fields I was able to recreate the error by updating the catagory in which the image was linked too. I changed the name, description, location and everything I could (a few times, hitting submit after each time) and finally it unsubmitted my photo.
I've come to the terms that it doesn't do it EVERYTIME I hit the submit button but there is something wrong somewhere and I'm desperately trying to find it.

Before that, I was the first person to submit this entry to the Beer or Soft Drink Advertisement II challenge, sit on it ALL week long only to update some of the information minutes before the challenge started only to find out that the coding has removed my entry.

BEFORE that, I entered another challenge (I don't remember which one right now) but I did the same thing as the times after this incident. I updated some of the info and it removed my entry.

So I'm asking for your help DPC, If you could test this by entered a photo into a challenge (doesn't need to be your entry or even a picture that goes in the challenge) update the information a few time (Title, Details, Location, Key words, Gallery Choices, Cameras, Lenses, A, ISO, Speed) click on the update button and see if it removes your entry I would be grateful and it could help out DPC as well.

PS. The time Langdon and I were trying to recreate the error it took me about 10 minutes of updating. Not saying that you need to waste 10 minutes of your life trying this error but all I'm saying is if it doesn't do it for you the first few times please don't give up and post in here that it didn't work. Really give it a try and make it a goal to see if DPC can remove your photo before you post something.

PPS. I would like to know WHO is trying this though so if you are trying please let me know so I can keep in contact with you.

PPPS. Post any questions you might have about this.

PSSSS. Can you really have too many PS's?
PPPPS. See now I just have Wayyy to many PP's. hahaha Thanks JH for the PSS/PPS correction

Also FWIW, I have never been able to recreate this error on my desktop which is running XP.

Every time it's happened I was on my Laptop which is running Vista. I would like to try both Vista and XP along with anyone that has W7, and Macs.

Last time I asked you if you had unsubmitted your image by accident. I know now that probably not the case because in order to unsubmit, there is a secondary window that pops up to avoid such an accident.

I am not aware of a secondary window that pops up but the response I got from Langdon was this:
There is only 1 place an entry can be removed, and that is on the challenge_submit_unsubmit.php page, which is only linked from 2 plages (challenges_index and challenge_submit).

The closest thing that happened to me is an entry that was DQ'd does not show up in my portfolio. I can reach it through other means, such as using the image ID, or browsing the challenge it was in. I wonder if it may be related to your problem.

--->uploaded a new picture -- exceed 300 limit, original picture still there
--->changed picture again, picture changed, all the info is the same
--->changed comments
--->changed galleries
--->checked email -- confirmation received
--->changed comments and glleries
--->viewed on profile ot see if it was really there (yep)

OK I have entered a dummy submission in "powerlines", using a Vista machine. Off to see if I can get it to unsubmit now.

Update 1: I have changed every data field, individually (that is, one at a time, updating after each change) and the submission is still there. So now what? Am I looking for a *combination* of data fields that trigger the unsubmission? Ooooh, that's a lotta permutations...

I've never hit the unsubmit button but I did changed some info and then the submit at the bottom of the submission page only to find out that it was gone later on down the road.
One time it looked like it was still there but after I updated the info I waited 3 seconds, click on the "my home" button and when the page refreshed I no longer saw the "thank you for entering this challenge" text next to the challenge I was just in.

yes that is a lot of combination but sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I've tried to recreate it before and could not, at other times I've tried and it did it for me on the first try.
I would just at it and really try to stump the software. Post back your results please.

I only hit unsubmit because I didn't want to forget it there.

If you are running web optimizing software that pre-fetches pages, try turning it off...

Such as what?

I've using FF 3.5.5 with WebDev and AVG active all the time. Other than that nothing

How will I know if it's been unsubmitted.. Will it just simply look like a challenge that needs to be entered after I've left this site and gone back, or is it instant ???

If you click on a challenge name on the left side under "Challenges Open for Submission" (one that you have not entered yet) it will look just like that. Also notice the words to the right of the challenge that says "enter this challenge" If you submit to a challenge it says something like "thanks for entering".

Once your photo has been removed it will change from "Thanks for entering", to "enter this challenge".

Thank you all for wasting time on this, hahaha I really do appreciate it very much.

When I click on "unsubmit" I get the following pop up window: "Are you sure you want to unsubmit your photograph?"

That's good info to know. I'd think you may get different behavior with different browsers - yes/no? Something to consider during this "testing".

It would be any software/plugin that "speeds up" your internet connection.
Can you duplicate the effect while using a different browser?
If it is only a problem in Firefox, try turning off pre-fetching in Firefox.

I have not tried it in IE because it's just so dang slow on all my machines I can't stand using it anymore but as far as software that speeds up my connection, I do not have anything like that installed.

I will try to recreate the error on my desktop and also in IE. I'll report back later, I have to run to the bank before 2pm. hahaha

I think it is noteworthy if you actually see a "submit" option displayed at this stage. I just confirmed that when I have an entry submitted and later go back to edit a detail I only have "update" and "cancel" displayed as options, not "submit". If you do have "submit" showing this would suggest that the original submission had been "lost" even before you tried to make any changes.

Totally OT - But you actually add additional PS's like this: PS, PPS, PPPS and not PSSS (stands for post-script, post-post-script etc.)

Ahh yes I'm sorry you are correct. The button DOES change to update after you submit to a challenge. Sorry about that I forgot all about it as I visually looking at a blank submission page instead of a submitted entry page. But the results are still the same. I click "update" and my entry is removed.

There are obviously only a few possible solutions to this conundrum:

a) Your Mac was on loan to NASA to aid in a critical rocket launch so you had to resort to using your kid's play-PC when submitting; or
b) Your subconscience knows that the image you submitted was so bad that you unwillingly and without knowing it unsubmitted it despite all the red warning popup's; or
c) You possess super powers (not likely); or
d) The image unsubmitted itself in fear of being brown ribboned; or
e) Langdon's new 'image scrubber' sensed cheating and sent it directly to the trash can; or lastly
f) You're on crack

:P but seriously. I have tested and tried myself on both a PC (with XP) and Mac without being able to reproduce it.
