Hi all,

I've been wanting to take a look at some Pentax DSLRs in a store lately, and have been unable to find anyone who stocks their products. Pentax's website sent me on a wild and fruitless goose chase yesterday looking for a Ritz Camera downtown that simply does not exist. I was wondering if any DC denizens knew of a location in the area? There's gotta be at least ONE place in this city, right?

Thanks!

Just a thought........if you're having this much trouble trying to find one as a potential purchase, then what will you do should you want service or accessories?

To me, no matter how special something may be, if it has no reasonable sourcing for service & accessories, it's best to steer clear.

Ritz lists many stores in your area. None were actually there? Or did they not have Pentax equipment?

What's the address of the Ritz Camera in question. Have you tried Penn Camera? Their selection is pretty extensive.

The website pointed me to a location off Mass Ave near Dupont Circle, but there were definitely no stores there. Just embassies and a Johns Hopkins satellite campus. No, I haven't tried Penn Camera, I'll take a look.

Plenty of Ritz Cameras, yes, and I've been into many of them without any luck. The one in question though was listed as a dealer via Pentax's website, but it, unfortunately, does not appear to exist. =\

In general I would agree with this, though with the internet available now to purchase accessories, I'm not terribly concerned. I'm moving to Albuquerque soon too, which seems to have no shortage of Pentax dealers, so I'm not concerned should I end up going that route, regarding service. DC has disappointed me the last 2 years with this kind of thing in general - it's allegedly a large city but it's extremely difficult to find any consumer products that are not the big brands.

If you mean the one on 18th St. NW, it closed. Did you try asking at any of the stores to see if they could check the stock of other stores for a specific camera?

Embassy Camera is still in DC near Dupont Circle - I noticed that on a recent business trip down there. They have been there forever. Worth giving them a call.

Places like: Walmart, Target, Best Buy, do carry Pentax too, but only online; so you would not be able to touch and feel the cameras unfortunately.

Here's another thought...

You could get up early, hop the bolt bus or one of the chinese buses to NYC. They drop you off at Penn Station, a block from B&H. You can spend a few hours there - it's literally Santa's workshop for photo junkies. Have the camera you buy shipped home, saving the sales tax (shipping is usually way less than tax on high dollar items). Spend the rest of the day soaking up NYC, and then hop back on the bus to DC. The bus shouldnt be but 40-50 dollars round trip, and it's likely that B&H will sell you a Pentax body and lens for at least that much less than the local stores down your way. You'll want to do that on a Sunday as they are closed on Saturdays.
