Sorry, that's the only one I have on hand.

For anyone else who is interested, here is a link to the PDF:

Your best bet is to find something that can serve as a posing stool of sorts...a wall, a tree, steps, etc.

I'll be in the same boat on the 27th. I'm shooting my first family shoot. What I found to be the difficult part is that the husband is perfectly fine with posed shots...the wife/mom wants mostly unposed shots...wife/mom wins.

So before planning different poses, you should talk with the family and see what type of shots they actually want.

Being the cynical person I am perhaps if you are uncomfortable with this is not to do the job. Go down town and have a look in the Pros window displays and see how they do the job. Also visit the public libraty most have a very great and varied selection of tomes on photography sure to have something on posing, The basic principle is to keep your composition symetrical and in anegg shape.

If you google Monty Zuger you will find several tutorials to get you startd . practice onyour own family and friends first to eliminate any cock ups

Here is an idea. Find out if the family does anything together. If they are a close family, you can get them doing that and take shots of them. Kinda like if they have a game night, pull out the games, put them around the table and snap as they play. The shots are 'posed' because you put them in the situation, and they are all obvious of the camera. However they are unposed because they are not sitting there staring at the lense forcing a smile.

if they are not that close, figure something to get them interacting with each other. Maybe just set up a wide shot of them sitting on the couch and you sit with the clicker in your hand and talk to them, ask them about stories, past history and you click away as they talk, and laugh. They cannot pose for the camera because they don't know when you are going to click. Obviously this works if you put them anywhere, together.

Just a couple ideas I keep in my bag of goodies.
