Hey guys. It's been a while since I've been around here, but trust me, I haven't stopped thinking about you guys.

I've created a new blog, called phy-graph-to-pho, which focuses around the reverse-engineering of photos (mostly fashion and portraiture photography)that I find inspirational. The format I'd like to follow is as follows: I post an image, with some cursory impressions, and then I collect (in the comments section of the post) your analysis. What you thought went into this photo. Then, at the end of the week, in addition to a new photo for analysis, I post some of the more eye-opening commentary. The idea being, if you're interested in, say, style, you can comment on what you think went into the styling of this image, or maybe identify the fashion influences behind the stylist's choice. If you're a model, you can dissect the posing and attitude of the subject. If you're a photographer, the lighting or processing might be of particular interest. It can also be a place to ask questions about how something is done--I will do my best to answer at the next post (or highlight the answer for the next post's readers if someone else gets it), but this being reverse-engineering, any guess is a good one. Together, one photo at a time, I know we can improve our understanding of the work that goes into photography.

But I need the help of people like you to make it work--in order to have compelling content, I need people to comment thoughtfully on my posts. I think we all could learn a lot this way.

The link is //phygraphtopho.wordpress.com. I'd love to see your commentary become a part of a wonderful directed-discussion community. The more you put in, the more you'll get out of it. And of course, if you know anyone else who might want to join in the fun, by all means send them a link.

Thanks, guys!

I definitely like the idea, but I'm not sure how much I would be able to contribute. I will keep an eye on this though because it does look like a great way to learn.

You don't need to be an expert! You don't need to be right! You don't even have to hazard a guess--questions/musings will be just as constructive to the discussion!

I do some of the same on my blog, and I've found that sometimes getting the reverse engineering wrong has sparked more comments than when I get it right.

You have to be careful posting other people's images on your blog, but do link to the image and photographer. Links are one of the ways that help boost searchability, and especially with Wordpress, other users get linkback notifications - which can help drive them to take a look at what you've written, and join in the conversation.

Not sure this is the input you wanted but I'd suggest the following to make your site appear more professional and drive traffic to it:

- Remove the Meta widget
- Update or remove the blogroll widget
- Create categories for your posts. This will help immensely after you have a number of posts and also assist with Google indexing.
- Add keywords and create more descriptive alt tags on the images. This is another indexing tip that helps drive traffic.
- Add tags to your post.

Other than that this is a nice site. I really like your logo and the posts have a good clean look to them.

Good luck with it.
