I like your outtake - neat composition - and left a comment on your entry.

Some may know that I self DQ'd from this challenge. Here is a version of the image before I messed about with it and subsequently uploaded the wrong edit:

September was actually a pretty good month for photography for me.

Was going to comment on your alternatives, Peter, but apparently I already have. :-)

Entry:

I would have liked to enter one of these from my New York City vacation but I only had a small netbook with me and the monitor started to fail (big blinking lines across it) so I didn't want to risk editing a free study entry on it.

My entry

Outtakes:

I went with the one I liked best, but the pump-jack probably would've scored better.

Here is my entry. I went with something basic and doubted myself for doing so:

I had a really good month in September. These were just a few of the other enteries that I was considering. I kept flipping back and forth between all of them.

One of my 10 worst finishes, (percentlile wise) and my lowest positional finish EVER!

I took lots of pictures last month on our vacation, but was too busy to do any processing until the last hours before the challenge. But something about the shot I submitted attracted me, and I thought it was different enough to make it stand out in a free study. It did--as a stinker! I guess in reality, I just liked the artwork, and I thought a shot of it was worthwhile in itself:

Here it is. Feel free to offer any insight as to why I should or shouldn't have submitted it!

Here's a couple I had worked up quickly but wasn't entirely happy with. I'm sure they would have done better--they couldn't have done worse! (I think)

And I forgot about this one, which I captured during a shoot of our synagogue's "Carrot Festival":

Probably any of those would have done better. :) On the bright side, someone liked "Beach Portal" enough to favorite it, so as they say, as long as you've "reached" one person, it can't be a total failure!

This was my other choice but I decided on the zoomed in version.

A couple more outtakes I had uploaded to my workshop and forgot about.
