OK, I have defined a grid for use in applying the ROT. No problem. But what I would like it to do is snap to the area I have selected as my crop. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Guess not.

I'm not totally clear on what you are doing.

You have a selection and you would like to move the grid so that it snaps to the selection?

Basically, yes.

In the above image, the grid is on, I have selected an area for cropping the image. The grid is on the whole image and I would like it to snap to the crop selection so I can crop to ROT using the grid. Is there a way to do this?

I've seen other programs that do this by default, but not with CS.

I have yet to figure out how to do that. I usually just crop it, and see how the ROT looks. If it's off, I adjust my crop and re-crop. Pretty archaic.

If I figure it out, I will let you know.

You can't get the crop tool to load a grid while it's drawing, no. What you can do is create a blank layer, then use the custom shapes tool to draw a 3x3 grid on that, then use edit>transform>scale to alter the grid as needed. Once the overlaying grid is where you want it, you can use the crop tool to crop to the grid, then throw away the grid layer.

A little kludgy but it works.

Thanks Robert. I have been doing something similar and it is just awkward is all. With all the things PS does, this is one it doesn't that would be very handy IMO.

Adobe needs to add the grid overlay feature that the Lightoom crop tool has to Photoshop, I find it extremely useful when cropping images.

I second that motion! I've always wanted to do the same.
I like LightRoom's cropping tool better, too.

My "Programming Skills" light are turning on in my head.

Is this an opportunity for a "PlugIn"??? Yes/No/Maybe???

You know, if it was possible (I don't know enough to program a plug-in, not the kind of programming I do) but I would pay a reasonable sum for it. The time it would save me in the way that I do things would be worth it. I don't just use it for ROT, but if it was available I would use it more often.

I found this which makes it sound as though you can snap a grid to a crop selection. Am I reading/interpreting this correctly?

NOTE: I tried this and it didn't work.
