Hi all,

I'm interested in having a go at film photography so am looking for a second hand Canon SLR. I know nothing about film cameras so am looking for some advice. I have the following lenses and was looking for a entry level film SLR compatible with them:

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM

Can anybody please help?

Thanks,

Tim

Those lenses should work with any EOS series film SLR's. As far a specific camera recomendation, I have none. Someone recently gave me a Nikon N8008 film SLR, so I will probably be shooting some film myself soon.

Yeah any of the EOS film bodies will work np with EF lenses (not EFs lenses if you have any not on your list).

As for bodies... well any of them take similar pictures since it's a light box... you pay for features. How much do you want to throw at it?

- Cheap as dirt... Try a EOS630.. LOVE mine to death - metal body single centre focus that works on horizontal lines well.. not so much on vertical. - probably $50 tops. Cheaper again would be an old Rebel of some type - all plastic though.

- Best value point IMO... An EOS3. Great focus (some have eye control focus points). Not sure of going price but few hundred would get you a decent one.

- Best of all time... One of the latest EOS1's which are probably the best film bodies ever made for Canon. Still well into the hundreds but worth it if you need those sort of features.

Check the shutter curtains for oil residue as particularly the 630 had a habit of that after a long time in heat. Make sure it's light sealed obviously :-)

Edit: Sprelling...

hey, i was just about to post that myself... :-D

Just last week I saw a used eos 1 for 399€ body only (or was it 299?) which i thought was a pretty good price for a pro film body (compared to nikon's F6 which still costs well beyond 1000€).

i have an EOS 300 that I bought for 25 GBP on ebay about a year ago. It came with a bag, a crappy 35-80mm lens and a roll of crappy film.

I used it a lot when my digital was being repaired and put about 10 rolls of film through it.

The film choice is more important than anything else.

An EOS Elan II would probably be dirt cheap. That's the one I have. I use it primarily for multiple exposures.

Thanks for the tips guys. Have won an EOS Elan II on eBay, so now looking forward to fiddling around with film. :-D
