I came across this earlier today and love it.
The Photographer's Ephemeris
It's is free software that uses Google maps and will draw lines on the map showing where Sunrise, Sunset, Moonrise, Moonset will occur for any location and date. This is great for when I want to get photos of the sun setting behind the Golden Gate Bridge, it will show me where I need to be and what time of year to have the sun be exactly where I want it to be in my photo.

That's way cool. We used to figure that stuff out with almanacs, astronomical tables, and topographical maps when planning remote shoots. This certainly is a tad easier Unfortunately, they don't have much detail for the Cape as yet...

| Ah very cool, they also list nautical and astronomical twilight. Great program. |

Salt Water Tides is useful as well.
Of course, just asking another photographer who is smarter than I am is always my best bet...;-) |

As I said this is going to be very useful for me. I recently drove 2.5 hours to a beach in Big Sur that has a large rock with a hole in it out in the water just off the beach. I had seen a photo with the setting sun lighting up the rocks behind the hole and wanted to get that shot. I waited 3 hours for sunset only to discover that the sun had to be over to the right 30 degs more than it was in order to get the shot. Not a complete waste of the day as I got some other good shots but a waste of a couple of hours.
Using this program I now know that I need to go back in October. :) |

all these years , like other indians, i relied on palm reading and horoscope. Now finally technology to save me. Lets hope it is as accurate as horoscope though, i have lots of faith in horoscopes.

Mainly I excel at getting past the Pebble Beach guard shack without paying the toll... :) |

There's an app for that. ;-)
Called LighTrac. I have it for the iPad, probably one for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Just found this piece of software and about to let every one know about it when I saw this thread.
How is every one finding it accuracy in the sunrise and set positions?
Do we have an 'offical' list of free photography software? |
