High School sports like football, lacrosse, soccer, rugby. Mostly outdoor sports however their may be opportunities for some indoor sports as well.

I've been very happy with my 18-200 VR.....that money will get you a new one....these from this afternoon, overcast but bright.....

That price range will get you a used 80-200 as well, theoretically, and that's generally considered to be an excellent lens, some say the best Nikon ever made.

It's a 2.8, so it'll gather more light indoors.

IMHO you aren't going to find one lens to shoot both indoor and outdoor sports with. Field sports will require at Minimum 300MM and hopefully longer. Indoor you are going to have to have a super fast prime along with a camera capable of high iso that is usable.

Field sports I shoot with a 300F2.8 with or without a 1.4 TC. Second body has a 70-200F2.8 on it.

Indoor sports will have a 85 F1.8, 50 F1.4, or 135F2 on it with a 70-200 on the second body.
