G'day all

I have been asked to take some portraits of 4 kids(3 Boys and a girl) from a lady at my work as her oldest will be leaving soon to join the Navy and they will not be together again for quite a while.

I'm not much of a portrait photog so any hints and tips would be great... Only requirement is that she wants all 4 in the photo's together But I can always add them in I suppose.. and she does not want studio type photo's (suits me too)...

How old are they?

he eldest is 17, so I'm guessing maybe down to 11-13 years old something like that....

You could have the oldest one lay down on the ground and the rest of the kids make it look like they captured him, then have all of them lay on top of him, like stack them up ya know. You could bring 4 pair of all black sunglasses and have them pose like they are spies. Have them play hide and seek with the older child sitting in front of a tree, one behind the tree peeking out, the other 2 running away but looking back.

I was going to do a shoot one day with about 8 kids and I told the mother to have them bring 1 thing they would always do.

I was going to have them pose in a group with the older girl on her cellphone, a younger girl doing her nails, one kid had a tea set, gi joes, cars, and so on. Then I was going to have the father on his cell phone like he was doing business and the mother pulling her hair out.

It may not work for you but it could for others searching threads.

Here is a shot from judi's collection.

Thanks Dirt_Diver

I was going to ask them to bring their favorite thing from their room, wear their favorite cloths but also have 2 sets as backups, good clothes and something else clothes wise.

Also for them to each pick their favorite baby/childhood photo, I could scan and add into the photo.

My mind is working overtime on this all sorts of idea's flowing but I gotta make them happen.... :(

what about lying on top of each other?

Doing nutty things, like sticking out tongues, looking at a book the other one tying his shoelace etc etc

Considering their ages. . . why not incorporate the family car (inside or out) into the mix? When he is done with the service that (the car) will certainly become a family issue.

-Tummy poses
-Diamond shape on stools if you want some SUPER dooper tradional portraits
-2 kids sat back to back, 1 sat between in the middle of them and the shortest 1 at the back kneeling...
-All laying down on backs shot from above?
-All standing casually, talking to each other looking away from cam?
-Eldest laying down on his tummy have all others lay on top of each other... can be quit fun for them =)

my friend did one similar I tried to find it but I'm not sure were I stored it to scan for you, she had the boy holding up the girl like a princess.. it was really cute and it had some catchy little saying on the bottom about being the princess or something..

I would make the girl the center of attention and put the boys all around her.
