Sick! Free neckstrap/smugmug whoring on its way!

The SmugMug neckstraps are incredibly comfortable. The fact that they are free, well that just makes it even better.

Too bad Flickr doesn't offer those. We have a meetup group and found a need for a way to find our group in a crowd at public events where everyone has cameras. They sent us some Flickr colored beach balls and buttons, but camera straps would have been awesome.

I'll bet this is expensive for smugmug, but I think it's brilliant marketing that will probably pay off. It will get their name out in front of exactly the people that they want to see it. It worked here!

What do they mean by "member of a photography forum" as far as being eligible for this offer?
01/21/2009 09:24:30 PM · #9
Cool, I'm in need of a decent strap!

I believe any photography forum (like this one) will do. I listed all forums in which I participate in the box: "dpchallenge.com, dpreview.com, fredmiranda.com" I'm guessing smugmug members will get priority, though.

Smug logo stickers. the smiley face

For the record... Smug hates spam.

My addy autofilled, guess it's cause I already have a Smug account.

I dont care what site it is and what they "claim" as far as your information. I allways create a new email alias for every site like that and if I start gettting spam I know exactly where it comes from... like putting smugmug@mydomain.com :D

You don't need to have a smugmug account. I don't have a smugmug account. I signed up quite a few months ago using my membership in the Canon Digital Photography Forums and got the strap pretty quickly. To my surprise, a couple of weeks later, they sent me a second one as well!

Not his point: you had to give them your e-mail addy (or at least I did), so if they're selling the list you'll be on it, as will I. But the e-mail I use for all this stuff is generic anyway, and it's already inundated with spam, so a little more won't hurt. I have a "private" e-mail I use for business that almost never gets spammed.

Well I applied, I have one of these styles of strap on my camera, would love another to put on my 5D, they are very comfortable and distribute the weight quite nicely.

I got my free Smugmug strap and stickers months ago. The straps are very high quality. The wide part is soft and stretchy neoprene (with the Smugmug logo of course), and they have nylon end straps with plastic adjusters just like my Canon strap. Mine is a lot more comfortable than my Canon strap.

BTW, there's no need to worry about getting spammed by Smugmug. It just ain't gonna happen.

I've applied for the strap.
Now all I need is a DSLR!

I got a smugmug strap a while ago. I would rather use the Nikon strap but this Smugmug strap is a little longer and way more comfortable.

I just tried it again. I could use another one for my D200 backup camera.

Thanks for posting this. I wonder why they didn't advertise this to smugmug members? I just ordered a new Blackrapid RS-4 strap but I may need another neck strap too sometime. Especially because I use smugmug and love their service.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday and immediately threw it on my D300. So much more comfortable than Nikon's stock neck straps. I love it!

EDIT: So I ordered another one :P

Mine came today! Thought (hoped anyway) that it might be longer than my Olympus strap, but it's certainly more comfortable. We'll see how durable it is. Can't beat the price, anyway...

Got mine today too. It is alot more comfy than the Nikon Straps I am used to.
