We want to get warm ...
we have many options and most are in Florida.
We have some family there but don't want to trouble them with us staying there. We also have a possible condo rental connection that would be an option but it's kinda out of the way ...

We have expenses that trump and large expensive trip to Florida so we are trying to get warm on the cheap.

Anyone ever do anything like this?

The "90 Minute Resort Preview Details of Participation" is "the catch".

This is one option - I was just curious if people had any opinions (hey, it IS Dpc! =)

LOL! I did this years ago for a ski vacation. Mine was completely free though, within driving distance and came with all meals, ski rentals, lift tickets, free horseback riding, roller skating, etc. The list went on and on. The sales pitch is high pressure, and unless you can easily say no and mean it, you will end up owning a vacation place. ROFL! On the up side, 90 minutes is nothing in the warmth of Florida on a three day weekend. Enjoy it!

Thanks. Apparently both adults need to attend but they have childcare ...
maybe they hold the children hostage until I say yes ;) ?

Oh, they definitely want both adults there. That's so that you can't put them off by saying "Well...I really need to talk to my wife first". If you're both there, they figure they've got you roped in.

My ex and I went to one, got the vacation and the TV, and fortunately, I am able to easily say NO to high pressure sales crap. And believe me, it IS high pressure, so be sure you can do it!

Good luck, soak up some rays for those of us in the frozen north!

You could put on a down jacket and drink a couple of cups of the hot liquid of your choice ... ;-)

if they let you take the kids to the presentation, give them a bunch of cola, chocolate milk, chocolate doughnuts and candy before they go in. Then, when they start getting a bit antsy, give them skittles and m&ms.

Ooooh... I LIKE it! I'd definitely try to screw with them in some way or another. Maybe bring something along to try to sell to them just for kicks. And don't leave them alone until they buy it.

There was a programme on the radio here in the UK today. A holiday expert was asked how skiing holidays in Europe were due to the recession??

The answer was simple, they are going downhill!!

Try Vegas pretty cheap right now. An seeing how the Bird preserve in Henderson sits over the Pacific flyway & some 213 different birds make this a stop-over there would be a nice opp for u. Wildflowers will also start to bloom over the next four months & the bighorn sheep are on the western slop & in the wash until late March.

Get some Mona Vie to take in and offer to make them your "downline" reseller if they give you a free condo/timeshare. Tell them with the way real estate is going they'd be better off working for you.

After they taste the hideous stuff I am sure they will ask you to leave the "preview."

And on the Las Vegas thing, My wife and I found a hotel about a mile off the strip that costs only $55, and it's nice.

My husband and I stayed in the Plaza (end of the Freemont Street Experience) for $35 through Priceline. I highly recommend it.

If you want to get warm, come to Australia. And witht he Aussie Dollar at $US0.65, each dollar goes further. The airfares might be out of the budget though.......

We did one of those in Palm Springs once, just to get away. The further into our 3-day weekend we got, the harder they tried to sell us, it was hysterical. If you know how to say "No!" it can be a good deal.

If you are in Japan you can fly Tokyo/ Auckland return for $ NZ 800.00. Air New Zealaand and the kiwi dollar is even lower than the Aussie one Air NZ have specials going as well to get the tourists in.

No, not Australia or New Zealand mate. Come to South Africa... It's just as warm as Aus, but here the US dollar goes even further.
Plus think of the photoshoot opportunities: Table Mountain in Cape Town, the big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo) on safari in the Kruger Game Park, the deserts of the Kalahari/Namaqualand, rural third-world settings (if you're into those urban/street life kind of scenese), urban first-world settings (if you're into entertainment and shopping), the mountains and valleys of the Drakensberg/Lesotho, plus tons of other amazing settings... (check out my portfolio for some options - though I'm sure better photogs could capture better images of that amazing scenery)

And Kai - you get to see the real, original Kaiser Chiefs play here ;-)
(Oh, and while I'm busy dishing it out to the Aussies and Kiwis, I might just add that our test cricket team beat the Aussies soundly in their own backyard, and as for the Kiwi rugby team, well, South Africa holds the Rugby World Cup - imagine the great quality sporting events you can come photograph over here :-D )
