I had the good fortune to be in Scotland last spring, and the best meal I had, hands down, was next to the docks in Arbroath.

I live in a small town called Hitchin and we have a chippy called The Town Fryer, simply the BEST I have tasted anywhere ..

*runs off to buy Haddock, Chips, with Onion Vinegar and a coke.*

Especially on a Friday. We tend to have Chish and Fips every Friday lunchtime at work - there is a rota for going out and getting the order. I try to only join in once a month, but it is hell when you only have a salad (or worse still, a bowl of weetabix) and you can smell fish and chips all afternoon.

Had them today - and fine they were, too.

The last fish and chips I had was in Tobermory and it was bloody awful. :( The best I had was in a small fish and chip shop on the road home from Cambridge (Ontario) or somewhere.... succulent and moist, positively dewy fish. :-P~

(What the hell are "lashings" of vinegar?)

I had a bit of a snooty Mediterranean view of fish and chips...that is before I spent a year in England...I miss that stuff...

Sacrilege! The only true accompaniment to fish and chips, apart from salt and lashings of vinegar, is curry sauce and mushy peas.

Lashings again. Reminds me of when Fawlty left the hotel, came back, and said to Sybil, "I'll have great lashing of hot screwdrivers in the morning." How many units does a lashing represent?

I dont know about this fish and chips meal, but i doubt it could compare to grilled sea bream with lemon and oregano, with a tomato salad, tzatziki and some ouzo to wash it down

Will salt an vinegar do? :-)
