Hi.. ok, yea, there have been numerous threads about people complaining about their pics looking differntly after they save for web and upload...

I have read through lots of them but about half way through they get too technical for me and i jsut get lost...

The stage I am at now is this:

I open my RAW file in Camera Raw, tweek it, then open in CS3, then click on "View", "Proof Setup", "Monitor RGB"

Then my pic gets darker and saturation gets messed... BUT this method DOES make it look EXACTLY the way is does after I Save for web and upload... The problem with this method is that I have to RE-TWEEK it... is CS3 because it is now changed from when I had it in Camera RAW...

Is there any way to FIX Camera RAW and CS3 so that it ALWAYS looks the way it does after it is saved for web and uploaded? Do I have the settings is CS3 messed up? Is my camera set wrong?

One more question... when I edit a pic WITHOUT changing the proof setup to Monitor will a print from the store look right? Or will a print look right WITH the monitor proof setup?

I am very confused.... please help =P

hmmm... i read through the tutorial... my pics have the "*" in the file name... anyway... i followed the steps up until I got to the part where I had to "Convert to sRGB" but when I tried to click on Image > Mode > Convert to Profile... I had a problem... I don't have this,,, (I have a Mac...)

because that is under Edit/Convert to Profile.
easier...Edit/Color Settings. Make RGB to sRGB 2.1
Here is what I have my MAC setup for. Just make the RGB to sRGB.

ok... well that did nothing... But if I choose Monitor in that list rather than custom and enter those values, it works fine...

I think I figured something out... i'll ask again if it's still a problem, Thanks!!! =)

How useful it is depends on you. Grab a chair and sit down with the book in the store. Flip through it to see if the teaching style fits your learning style. If it doesn't then look for other books. Eventually you should find one that fits your learning style.

Well, I guess that's something to do one night next week =)

Thanks =)

I have exactly this problem... if you find a way to solve it... I'd love to hear it. I've posted in a few places and no one has been able to make a suggestion that worked so far...

The best solution to this problem is to work in black and white only! That's the only time I don't see a color shift. For me, I work in sRGB if it is an image solely for DPC or the web, but I still get a color shift when saving for the web, just not as dramatic. For the most part, I usually work in adobe RGB. Then will duplicate the file and tweek it in sRGB for DPC. I know CS3 is set up correctly, monitor is calibrated (iMac alum), blah, blah, blah. It's very frustrating. I've given up on it!

yea... i have a half-assed solution that i think i can live with... but there is still a MINOR colour shift... nothing big...

well... i click on: Edit> Colour Settings

Then in the top bar, I select "Monitor Color"

Then click "Save"

Then whenever I open a pic in photoshop it will ask what colour space you want to work with... select the working space, which is the Monitor one... That seems to work good for me...

I have also found that the pics I print at the store look like they do on my monitor too...

You should be editing with the "monitor proofing" on. To get the closest color your monitor should be properly calibrated with an Eye-One calibrator, Huey or something similar. You can rent these once and bring them back, or just trust your eye if you aren't too picky.

As for printing- if the monitor is calibrated then it will be close. You should be able to actually download color spaces right from your printing company, load them into PS, and see how your image will look. (I use www.whcc.com)

It's always a nightmare!
