A simple question, if you low voted this entry in "The road less traveled".

Did you low vote it because:

A) It really isn't very good -or-
B) DNMC. Does not fit the topic in any way.

The reason I ask is that I got 8 comments during voting, but none of them left any criticisms or suggestions on the shot itself, only on the suitability for the topic. Thanks for the feedback.

I didn't vote for this one, but here are my quick impressions:

A. I like the colours. They are warm and give a very nice feeling.
B. The sky could be cleaner -- it looks grainy, I'm guessing the ISO was quite high? (*edit: saw the ISO was only 200; not sure what makes it look like that then...*)
C. The picture doesn't reaaaaaaally meet the challenge. So it would have lost points for that.

Hope this helps.

I voted it a 5. As an image on its own, it's interesting and makes me wonder about it. But I only saw a weak connection, as in "the back is the less-seen side."

What were you trying to convey?

I did comment about both! In reviewing your notes about the image I understand what you were trying to convey in the image and think that the methaphor maybe one step too far level one being the choice, and level two looking for guidance on the choice/not knowing.

Also, if you look at my comment it was very last min, after digesting the image I was about to increase your score for not just taking a picture of some road, but nature called, and then the news and then the fridge....

As we go through life we are always looking for a sign of some kind to tell us which choice to take. Sometimes we see the sign, but we still don't know what is on the other side.

Feedback so far is consistent with what I had thought. I had figured the metaphor might be too far off base from all the other entries. Getting killed with DNMC's was expected. Danke.

I gave it a 7 myself. I understood the message, pretty much as your notes describe it. I'm not surprised it suffered at the hands of the voters, though. Still and all, a thought-provoking response tot he challenge, and I'm glad you entered it.

gave it a 4. Good colors but I didn't even see a relationship to a road...the sign COULD have been taken in a parking lot for all I know.

That's because there was no relationship to a physical road intended, except the tenuous one of it being a road sign. The relationship was to the idea of choices made and looking for a sign to help decide which choice (road in life) to take. Thanks for the feedback. I was absolutely NOT shoehorning this, though I can see how it was taken that way by many. It seems to have performed exactly as I thought it would.

I scored it a 5. Saw the connection, but the overall image and didn't do much for me. Nothing specific to pick on about it. My assessment of it now - as to why it scored so low is that it wasn't metaphoric enough AND it wasn't literal enough, IMO (or imho, as some would have us type). :)
