Go figure, my wife bought me an early Fathers day gift and got me a 40D to replace the aging 20D. i wonder if Amazon would refund the difference if it is within their 30 day return policy? Anyone have any kind of experience like this with amazon and what did they do?

Hmm, IRS stimulus check + instant rebate + Father's Day... somebody drop my wife a subtle hint.

Ok, forgot the subtle part. =)

The 40D rebate look sweet, but what I want, er, need, isn't on the list! I need a 24-70 2.8. Argh!

I almost got a 24-70 f/2.8 when I put the 16-36mm on lay-away, but someone walked in and bought it while I was standing there talking.

This was a close one! I just ordered a 40D! (thread) I was blinded by the giant hole burning in my pocket, and did not read this soon enough.

My palms are getting a little sweaty just thinking about it. :) Will all Canon retailers have the rebate program in place?

warning: this may be a stupid question BUT is the rebate thru anywhere you buy it such as amazon or what?

The past few rebates have been essentially price reductions taken at the register - so anyone selling the items new just reduces prices by the amount of the 'rebate'. A couple of years ago it was a mail in rebate deal - buy one thing get $30 (or whatever) and if you buy 2 they'll double the rebate on BOTH items! But it was a hassle to actually get the check in the mail.

The first US rebate rumour didn't have the 24-70 on it, teh most recent rumour does...if so I'll be returning the 24-70 that arrives monday and getting another for less, and a 40D to go with it. If so, I'll have a 20D for sale...see me Monday!
