i'm new here so i dont know if this has been done before, but...

does anyone else here read ALOT? as in, its number two in my top ten favorite things to do under photography?

i think it would be neat if there was a challenge where we had to capture a scene from a book, PREFERABLY a book that hasnt been turned into a movie, because then it would still be original, and no two scenes would be alike because we all have our own imaginations when reading. just a thought. or maybe even pick a book everyone would know [alice in wonderland, peter pan... classics like that] and we could use that as a theme for a challenge...

Voracious reader here. I think it would be a nice idea for a challenge. Might even have already run before.

Reading is probably even more important and interesting to me than photography. Good challenge topic. It's similar to Book Titles and Literary Adventure.

I read nearly everything I can get my hands on that's written in English.

I'm working on being able to read French as easily, but that's a ways off.

Only thing scary is that it would be very hard to determine if the entry met the challenge. It would basically be a basic-editing free study.

and you're right i thought about that as well. not knowing whether or not it was legit, but some challenges are like that anyways, we'll see! maybe they'll do another one ... what book would you do??

Yup, it's scary when you first start out. But when you get used to freedom, it's really hard to give it up.

Same as the movie challenge, just require book title in shot title.

Since there are all manner of "required" reading lists out there, I'd like to see a challenge where the book titles came from a specific list rather than just any old book out there.

So long as they are books in my collection.

For the current challenge (Scene It II), Many of the ideas I came up with were based on movies that were even better books. Lee, King, Steinbeck, Faulkner, etc. I think a book challenge would be a lot of fun - title, theme, scene, character, etc.

Challenge suggestion: Read It!

Pick a theme, character, scene, or plot element from a book and recreate it in your photograph. Your title should reference the title of the book.

I just read an article on the dangers of heavy drinking....
Scared the shit out of me.
So that's it!
After today, no more f*cking reading.

LOL, looks as if you have your title figured out. Now all you have to do is write the book!

And I agree, another book title Challenge would be, well, challenging.

hawkeye.. thats a great topic... reading is amazing...
i've always wondered how other people imagined scenes from books i loved.. specially parts that are very influencial..
wouldnt it be interesting if we pick a single book..
i know its limiting but it could be a sort of a running challenge..
and each month or so we vote for a book...
and those who didnt read it will get a chance to read a great book that everyone voted to be so nice..
i would be very curious as to how people would photograph what that book has tickled in their imagination...

We have over 3,000 books in our library. I generally read several books a week. I used to spend over $300 a month on books. Now I get them from friends.

I read everyday. I'm a serious reading nut. I research books then order them via my library online. I read everynight before bed or I can't sleep. I'll even read junk mail before bed if I don't have a book handy lol

So yea.. I think you have a great idea. I think it might even interest others in reading! Wish my kids got my reading bug.. they hate to read.
