I've found it really hard to go back to camera since my vacation trip, where I almost slept with it for 2 weeks. I took like a gazillion of photos there, all in RAW - and now I lost my heart in processing them, as well as in pushing the shutter.

I miss photography, but every time I pick the camera, my inspiration drains out... I don't know, how long will this period take... but the time goes on, my subscription expires in 20 days, and still no willingness.

I am afraid. I began taking photography seriously just a year ago, and what if this was just a passing fancy?! (oh, no).
Any rehabilitative treatment suggestions?

Dude, you need a photo buddy! Someone who'll go out & about with you just cause you might see something to shoot at. Until you find a buddy, try what I call "following the lens".....just head out somewhere & shoot whatever you see, keep doing that until you're tired of it & head home to see what you got. :)

download Lightroom, process all the images quickly, get them off your hard drive.

You'll feel MUCH better, trust me.

Do what Leroy said above, then show off a few of your favorites to friends/co-workers, and once they start oohing and aahing you'll remember why you love it so much. That will get you back in the mood to take more.

Hey team mate,

Coming back from vacation is almost always an anti climax. I take most of my photos while on vacation. When vacation is one specifically for photography it makes coming back even harder.

I usually work on the ones I feel are the best first and put a few on the web for sharing. I then start working on a second batch and so on. Eventually I get through all the photos and am then ready to tackle any local scenes with the camera.

Work on a few at a time. Share then work on a few more.

That happens to me after every single vacation. I'm always in the same boat. It usually ends, for me, around a month.

There is nothing wrong with taking a break. I would think I would get sick of it if I didn't. It's a nice downtime to let your creative juices build up again.

I even have these periods as a Graphic Designer were I lose my will to create and need down times. Usually after a large project is completed. It takes a few days for me to think outside that project to move onto newer things and be 100% efficient again.

It's all part of the process. I don't think people who seriously work or play in the creative field always realize that while they are busy composing, shooting and being in the "mode", their brain is exercising hard. Even if it doesn't feel stressful, it's putting it through a rigorious pace. Just like exercising the body, after a work out, it needs down time.

It's just a phase, you'll be back at it in no time. Enjoy this time to look around and find other work that inspires you. Read some good photo magazines.

Pick one of your favorites. Process it nicely. Print it REALLY BIG.

Works for me every time. :)

Something about seeing it printed, I think.

Picking one out of 1000 is usually the hard part, though it's fun looking. ;o)

Hi Collete,

I totally understand your feeling. I got back from a 4 day vacation in the Canadian Rockies last month. It was including 2000 km driving, plus 1000 images in 4 days (from Banff to Vancouver). I didn't even want to look at my camera for days. I just realized that we always need another vacation to recover from the last vacation.

Take a break and like some people say, it will come back in no time.
