im getting killed. Surprising considering it is such a small challenge and there were only a handfull of good shots. Guess I'm not in the handful. LOL.

I just started to vote but decided to do it later rather than first thing in the morning. Probably not a good time to vote on this challenge, looking at pictures of greasy burgers at breakfast time doesn't really work!

They're like "ooh, that looks cool *click*... yeah, great, but I better b***h because of a preconcieved notion rather than evaluating the photo itself... 4"

So for once I just go on the title, and even at that knowingly with an out-of-the-box entry. And now I read the details. Oh, well. I still like it; maybe it'll bring a smile to some people as they smack it down.

Yeah dude. I'm seeing SO MANY that apparently haven't read the details. Hmmmm.

Your 5 is definitely a better score then I think a lot of them are porobably getting.

I purposely avoided what the details said... well I tried to make it advertisement stlye but my morals prevented me from actually trying to sell fast food.

Sadly I ate some in the process... That stuff is addicting and when it's in front of you... oh boy. Usually I avoid it though.

LOL. Down to 4.8. And yeah, it looks like a lot of folks missed the "make it look like an ad" bit. But since I did, too, I'm not counting off too much for that!

But are not the details saying for you to produce a fast food photo for the purpose of promotional advertising, there seems to be a lot using existing advertising, that we all know works as it is, so is this not defeating the theme of the challenge, and the photos showing fast food without advertising seem to be given the thumbs down.

*reads for the tenth time*...what??
could you restate this? I don't understand the question. I think the details were pretty clear, the photo should be able to be used in an advertisement. I guess I can see how people might have gone a different path, maybe the challenge should have been called "Fast Food Advertisment"

The challenge said something like the picture should be one that could be used in promotion of the product. Maybe 20% touched that base?
It also said that (the challengers?) should be inspired to rush out and get a fast food fix when seeing the picture. The great majority, mainly due to lighting and/or colour balance, look distinctly unappetising.
Added to that, the phrase 'fast food' can be taken as two independent words or a discrete phrase and then interpreted again from either of those choices.
So, as usual, it's probably best to judge the field as is - there are plenty of great little shots if you do that.

Oh, I'm tad over 5.5, which is obviously a travesty of justice.

DETAILS.

We've all seen those delectably perfect shots of the glory of fast food. Your challenge this week is to become a fast food pro; make our mouths water, make us want to make a midnight food run! Your shot should be SUITABLE for an advertising campaign.

THIS DOES NOT SAY IT HAS TO BE ADVERTISING, BUT YOUR FAST FOOD SHOT BE SUITABLE TO BE USED FOR ONE.

Has anyone noticed how bland in colour 'real' fast food is. Never really took notice before but looking through the photos a lot of the fast food photos have that real yellow tone.

I only read the name for this challenge, then took the shot I had in mind. Got it all ready to submit and in so doing saw the description of the challenge. My photo did not meet the requirements (note to self - must remember to read the description). I didn't submit my photo as it was a DNMC.

It appears that many others did not read the details as there are not many that meet the challenge.

For those that did read the details - you'll be happy. Only 70 in the challenge and most of those DNMC so your odds are much better. But, will people vote according to the challenge details (which I gather is what we are meant to do) or not. Could be interesting.

yeah the thing is a lot of them are good and creative but they didn't exactly follow the challenge rules. Mine is a terrible shot i'm getting a 4.85 or something :P but i followed the rules to make it look like an ad

That's probably more the lighting used than the subject itself, though you are right, not very much of it looks very appealing.

Its kind of difficult to say what could or couldn't be used for an ad though.
Just yesterday I saw an ad for running shoes that was a girl taking a, urm, moment
for relief in a bush.

Yeah it is hard to say. But the majority of fast food ads have some sort of image in their product. Some of the entries are trying to be creative and display how fast food is made or a real live fish. So i can't consider those as actual ads

You can't imaging an advertising campaign based around those images ?

The McDonalds web site is interesting in that regard, almost all of their advertising images there don't even have the product in it - its all 'lifestyle' shots of people having fun. Point being, its just about impossible to not meet the challenge if the challenge is 'be suitable for advertising' once you get to the level of well exposed, in focus, decent composition etc. Subject matter is almost irrelevant for advertising with a decent campaign.

McD's web page has a guy playing drums, someone scuba diving and some people jive dancing for their main ad images at the moment

True but then again it says in the description of the challenge that we are suppose to make "our mouths water" and you can't make your mouth water by displaying having a good time with McDonalds?
