I need someone to PLEASE help me with some software - I need to write a slideshow to DVD (hopefully with free music?), and I need it fast & free.

As many of you know from 'short notice work', Glenda & I were asked to photograph a wedding for a cancer victim...

I just got word tonight that Hospice thinks she may not make it another week, instead of the 'month' they first hoped for (just this past Saturday).

I am not even bothering to edit any pics now, except to 'auto' levels contrast & exposure. Just choosing the best & getting to them (probably take tomorrow off work & take it straight to the family).

Ok, there's the details... please help me?

Thank you everyone!

Billy

Windows 2000/XP/Vista come with/can download the windows movie maker which is okay. But maybe theirs other free alternatives.

I wish you were near me because I'd let you use Avid Liquid Edition its a 700 dollar piece of software I use.

Picasa is free, but does not do music.

ETA:

It will write to a DVD, but I believe it must still be played on a computer.

How many pics? What resolution? What kind of music? If it can be assembled under 100MB, I can get one together, zip the DVD contents so you can burn it there. Here's a real quickie I did today, as an executable of, yes, flowers: July Flowers

I have a ton of music, and the Proshow software will make a slideshow, exe, screensaver, webshow, DVD, etc.

Let me know what I can do to help Billy.
(reason I said 100MB, is that is the file size limit I can transfer at one whack)

Movie Maker is really easy to use. Not much of a learning curve and can be quick and dirty when necessary.

I use Nero 6.0 which has the ability to do just that and its pretty dummy proof. Heck I can do it. Wally-world likely has a copy on the shelf in a pinch.

Not sure of exactly how many files (probably less than 75 for tonight), but I'm guessing they'll come in under 100MB.

We can remember 3 of the songs, and are finding out the 4th:

Couple's dance - I'll wait for you - blake shelton
daughter - Wind beneath my wings - bette midler
youngest son - The Baby - blake shelton
oldest son - ??? (we're trying to contact the family)

btw - should we try to use the actual songs played that day, or use something else?

also, it seems the youngest son is also trying to arrange to be married this thursday, so that his mother can attend

I'd say use different music. Everyone remembers the music played that day, and if the songs don't match the when and whats, it may seem a bit odd. This is kind of like editing your own pics vs. editing someone else's. Editing your own, you don't always see the forest for the trees,as you were there and pre-judge the scene, but when doing someone else's, it's a fresh look and can see things in an image that the original people involved overlook.

good point brad - that occured to me after a minute, and i agree - actually, i checked the first 20-30 seconds of your show (very nice).

that particular music was a touch... sad? for this instance, but if you have something similar it would be really nice

thank you all so much

That music was mushy, like flowers.
Over 1,100 songs here.

ummmm - they are a 'country' family, as you can tell from the other music... something classic, hmmm - oh! do you have anything with, like, running water / bubbling stream (though, not so much the ocean - too far from here)

everyone, feel free to chime in with music selection ideas

I do as a matter of fact, but with over 1,000 songs, and without seeing the pics, can't really suggest yet. It's a feeling that comes over when assembling a show.

oh lord michelle! those are some serious tear-jerkers

(i used to travel for a living, and those songs always made home seem a million miles away - my oldest daughter would actually call me on the phone when she would here those & we'd sing them together)

sheesh, now i REALLY can't stop blubbering all over the place ;)

(is ok michelle; they're great memories for me - in fact, Jenn called me at work today & sang 'into the ocean' for me)

ummm - back to work... ok - i will stick the first few (very rough) drafts in my workshop & post here - mind you, they ARE rough - i just hope the family can understand that i don't do this all the time & only wanted to help...

back in a few minutes

alright - I'm sure these need contrast, etc., but at least you can get a sense of what I'm working with:

Smith Wedding

feel free to provide suggestions, but please understand that I'm under a serious time constraint.

These are great Billy.

Justin Timberlake's "Sexy Back" out of the question? HAHA - just kidding...

Lemme clear my head and see what moves me. When it clicks, it'll be a flashing neon sign.

OK, playing these, clicking through the samples so far,
and a few neon lights have lit:

Push, by Sarah McLachlan
You raise me up, by Secret Garden just lit up as well.
Forever And For Always, by Shania Twain
I Never Saw Blue Like That Before, by Shawn Colvin
So Beautiful, by Simply Red
The smile on your face, by Allison Krauss
My One True Friend, by Bette Midler
The other half of me, by Bobby Darin
You Light up My Life, by Debby Boone (tad corny, but powerful)
You're My Better Half, by Keith Urban
On the Wings of Love, by Westlife
The Space Between, by Zero 7

thanx brad - i'm starting to not be so rough on myself, now that i look at them (i always think 'oh, my work sux' right after shooting something, then start liking it a few days later)

hehe - ya know, her husband would probably appreciate the whole 'sexyback' thing ;)
08/01/2007 01:42:52 AM · #18
there's another song.."only God could love you more...." IF your still hunting songs
08/01/2007 01:57:02 AM · #19
'the smile on your face' - i think that would do nicely (though I'm biased & still sing the original Keith Whitley version in my head)

is it titled 'when you say nothing at all'? (just need to know, so that i can ask one certain family member)

(sonya - thank you for your input too)

no problem...wish I could actually HELP (as in the verb not the noun)...and don't forget Martina McBride's song..so it anyway...which is about all the things that you can't do/shouldn't do/won't work...etc etc but you should do em anyway...Prayers for you and the family...unless you make LOTS a day..I'll compensate you a days work you missed as donation for helping them if ya need it...

The Smile On Your Face

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand
Says you'll catch me where ever I fall
You say it best
When you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking aloud
But when you hold me near
you drown out the crowd
Old Mr. Webster could never define
What's been said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand
Says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best
When you say nothing at all

The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'd never leave me
The touch of your hand
Says you'll catch me whereever I fall
You say it best
When you say nothing at all

I can probably get any version though. Hers just sounds so sweet.

Sonya - that has got to be the sweetest thing anyone has ever offered. thank you so very much... tell ya what; i will (discretely) inquire about charitable donations for the family, or at least find out their cancer charity organization (sweet... but funny - i work for the state of TN so, no, i don't make much in one day) may i get back with you on this? eta - please use PMs

Brad - she does have an amazing voice, and probably the only person who COULD sing that song & still make me like it (there are a couple other songs of hers that i considered too... now, if i can just think of the names LOL)

Michelle - i love this community too, and am so grateful to have such great & caring friends here

Leroy - thank you; that means a lot to me (seeing as i am definitely my own worst critic) i really appreciate your getting that file to me, too!
