With all the discussion regarding shooting sports I think it would be fun to start a thread for everyone to post your recent sports shots. I'll start with my last sports assignment for the paper. Add as many or as few as you want to.
This doesnt have to be just for those who get paid to do it, anyone can post any sport that they shoot. So anyone else want to post some recent shots?

Here are a couple from my game tonight. I was focusing mainly on second base tonight, so here are a couple shots I ended up with...

The whole idea is to post Sports photos, this is not a contest, this is a place to share what YOU shoot and maybe along the way pick up some pointers and progress with your shooting. Trust me if you would have saw my stuff just a year ago you would have laughed. I'm not in John or skips league yet but that doesnt stop me from shooting or posting.

ok - i will put mine up to make some of you feel better lol. i have to dig thru my computer to find more.

,

These were done with my 40-150 mm lens and I did do some things like play with color balance and sharpening.

Great thread! I love seeing all the work so far.

This is a photo of the stadium where my local minor league team plays...

I also write a blog about this team here:

//www.crawdadsblog.com

I post some photos there as well. Luckily, I have another guy who writes a little for this blog as well...

Thanks MattO,

Well, this is one of my better ones. Very grainy, but think facing the sun had a lot to do with that.

Well I will add some to this thread, but since I am not a member I will just have to link to my Fotki Site

Here are a few of my better shots from this spring. I know they're not as sharp as most others in this thread but I feel they are decent enough considering they were all shot with my $170.00 Tamron 70-300.
Comments are welcome.

The only sport I really shoot is snowboarding... I want to get a couple PWs and get some skate in the fall though.

Quicksilver Showdown Over the City at Grouse Mtn, BC

Some random shots from whistler:

A couple "lifestyle" shots

"Guy in the Sky" photos, aka "How to NOT get published as a snowboard photographer"

If youre going to shoot snowboarding, rule number one (hell, pretty much the only rule) is: your photo MUST include the rider AND whatever feature hes hitting. Photos of a dude in the sky, like these ones, are pretty much useless...

This is a shot of my dad from last summer:

I hope to get some more good ones this weekend. Pentax *ist DL with a 200mm lens. I forget the exact lense because the camera was owned by a friend of my dad's. I'd like to see what I can get with my camera.

I really wish I had decent focus for this shot:

I've since learned what settings I need for getting good action shots.

Here is a shot of the old Tiger Stadium in Detroit which is going to be demolished possibly as early as next month. That will be a very sad day in Detroit. There is so much history there. Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb played in this stadium.

Well, I don't see any Lacrosse images, so I thought I'd share a few of mine. The trouble (for me) with shooting sports is that it's a high volume thing. I shoot lots of pictures (this last Lacrosse tournament I shot nearly 13,000 images), throw them all on the web site, and let the customers sort out the good from the bad. I don't hardly even look at the images unless they are purchased. So these that I'm sharing are images that have been picked and purchased by customers rather than ones that I've gone through and found:

Skip, your photos are awesome. I'd give a kidney to be able to get shots like that.

Just one from tonight's baseball game...
07/19/2007 06:18:45 AM · #24
thanks, jan! though i imagine there are probably better things to do with a kidney ;-)

some parents at our pool hired me to shoot their kids. they had a fun time 'modeling' and i didn't have to deal with the stress of trying to shoot them under meet conditions.

and of course, they all wanted to try this shot ;-)
