Hmm, right after posting to the 'not macro' thread I read the comments on my own picture (by enabling current statistics in my preferences) and multiple people have commented that *I* didn't submit a macro shot! I know for sure that it is... it's one thing to be busted for not following directions (admittedly a strict interpretation) but it's something else entirely getting criticized and given a low vote for something you haven't even done! :)

Perhaps picture doesn't communicate it's own scale clearly, but that was part of my point. At the risk of blowing my cover, the crack in the concrete I photograhped is 3/4" wide, you can even see the water distorting where it touches the plants due to surface tension. If that's not macro I don't know what is! Even the ripples in the water that, if caused by wind, would be much larger in size were created by water gushing out of a hose and are deceptively small.

Perhaps it's not fair to complain about people misinterpreting an image that tries it's best to look big at an small scale, but I can't help feeling a little jilted. Next time I'll stick a bottle-cap or something in there for the scale-challenged. ;) No hard feelings, guys.

The plants, taken from an absolute minimum distance of 11" (as close as I can focus) with the image cropped down around 66% to get tight framing. The plants are about 1/2" tall.

I agree with your comments. I too had several comments and I assume nonvotes from folks who only see stereotypical macro and not close focus.

But of course we are all amatures and learning.

Well said Bryan. I saw your web page and from my opinion, you are the one who is a professional. I will always be an amateur in my own opinion until I start making a living at it.
