I'm currently using PS 7 (Will likely get cs3 when I buy a new laptop) is despeckle my best option? I know plug ins like neat image are helpful, but I'm not investing in them until I have cs3. Also, is there any way to selectively reduce noise in ps 7, and is there a way to selectively reduce noise within basic/advanced rules here at dpc?

My knowledge is limited and my PS7 knowledge is nonexistant but I think a slight guassian blur is better for reducing noise than despeckle. and I dont know of a way to selectively apply noise reduction in basic. sorry. I'm not familiar with ps7 but if you can make layers and layer masks than you can easily selectively apply despeckle or guassian blur by masking. but only for advanced challenges.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Despeckle isn't all too helpful, and I know there had to be a better way. Of course . . . I don't have any idea of how to use layers/masks, but I'll look into that.

One way to do noise reduction in basic using PS 7 is to do a guassian blur...then edit-fade gaussian blur....there you can play with blending options and opacity. (I just learned this trick a few weeks ago and I love it).

Hey albc28, thanks for the info, I think I'll start using gaussian blur to reduce noise. Is there a tutorial you know of, on dpc or off, that teaches this technique in detail? Thanks again to all those who have and will helped me out.
