OK, I know this probably belongs in a different area (namely current challenge) but since this is a rant I figured it should go here.

My entry is getting hammered and this is VERY painful to watch. So my question is this: do we really need to draw out the voting until the 14th? Can we just end it now so I can at least get a respectable place (low double digits) in the ranks? :)

So, it's seems that the though guys are voting today, mine is going down too... :( and the worst of all, zero comments, so i'll never know what is wrong for this guys....

Same here.
Maybe it's the low-voters hour.
Not to worry scores will pick up again.

My N-Y-R got hammered for about 20 votes by the Lunch Time crowd, but it looks like it is starting to rebound with the evening crew. The Action and December entries dipped a little, but they have mostly leveled out. The first day is always exciting when you have less than a hundred votes and the swings are much bigger.

I'm not sure it is the Lunch Time crowd. It could be members in another part of the world, but my scores almost always seem to dip between 11am and 1pm EST. My theory is that it is people rushing through the voting to get it done at work computers during lunch time.

Hey,

I wouldnt mind if they got rid of the december study all together. Well, maybe not, there are some really cool shots in it. Maybe just get rid of mine :) I've been taking a hammering on the last few shots I've entered.

I think I need to get my ideas to work with different photographic techniques. Of course I'll have to learn them first!

Anyway, my DFS shot has been mid to high 4's from the get. As are all the two others in different challenges. Dunno, I think was trying to get too creative and while they looked good to me, others are defintiely disagreeing. Oh well. Live & learn!

Well on a lighter note my pic has gone up about .2 since a few days ago. First challenge I've entered in 4 months and I'm glad I chose this one.

How would you feel about a two-horse race?

no better than a three horse race where I am at right now! Good luck to all of us!

My DFS entry started off fairly strong (around 6.8 at its peak) and has since tapered off to a mind-boggling 6.5 or so. At this rate, I'll be lucky if I'm in the top 20. So much for worrying about sending in my original image on time. Am I being too harsh on myself? I mean, if my current entry is failing this much, just imagine if I had used my alternate/original entry.

You consider a 6.5 failing??? That is a score I only reach in my dreams! LOL I was on cloud nine all day because my last entry ended with a 5.9, maybe I'm not being hard enough on myself. :-)

I was just going to say: One getting a 6.5 should not be complaining about their score. Many people would KILL to hit that score.

I think there's a rule stating that complaining is not allowed if you score above 5.0. ;-)

Just some friendly advice.

all I ask for is to end with a 6 :(
if I got 6.5.. I'd be so... woohoo ;)
currently sitting at 5.3 on my new years (was 5.9 this morning, peaked at 6.2)
was thinking for a while I was gonna be in luck and break the big 6.0 :(

ah well, I spose after reading the comments my photo desrves to be where its going.

I guess I'm being exceptionally harsh on myself. Photography is one of two hobbies where I feel very competitive (the other is racing my car). So, if my images "fail" that's why. I'm also fairly new to DPC so that's another reason but I'm not all that new to photography. I'm not trying to make up excuses but it's the truth. I just want my entries to succeed, that's all. If they fail, then I have failed as a photographer.

I signed up with DPC to improve my skills but I seem to have hit a plateau/brick wall/mountainside. I am having a hard time "kicking it up a notch" so to speak. If you browse my anemic portfolio, you'll see some random images. I don't take "studio-type" pictures but the more spontaneous kind. I like to walk around and simply snap away. I don't want to give up too much info so you know which DFS entry is mine. I just had a brain fart so I can't remember what else I wanted to say. How embarrassing.

My scores have been taking a mighty battering too..

Action Shots - Over the first 12 hours: 6.8 -> 6.0.

NY Resolutions - Over the first 12 hours: 5.7 -> 6.0. Over the next 2, 6.0 -> 5.4!

Both scores are now holding steady in relative mediocrity. :-)

You've got to love first day scores.. It's a rollercoaster ride!!

For this reason I turn the scores off in my preferences for the first two days of each challenge until things settle down a bit.

Sounds distinctly less nerve wrecking, but that means I'd have to wait a whole two more days for my score. :-)

That is the worst part, but it is better than getting disappointed everytime you push the update button and watch your score dive each time :( After a couple of days and turning the score back on, it usually stays steady of starts rising again.

Yup I can agree with you all, I never hit 7 until Resolution. After first day and 30 odd votes i was sitting pretty at 7.8 and had big permanent smile on my face!

Now not so good - biiiiiiggg drop ;(
