Now this looks interesting.....
Story Here

I don't own any Sigma lenses, but I'd like to give this one a try!

Hopefully itll be better then the last one which was a pile of junk.

Im liking the Tamron 18-200/18-250 which has no barrel distortion after 35mm. But neither have met up to Nikon's unit hoping Sigma hit t big with this one.

I'm still waiting for the release of the 12-300mm f/1.2 Macro EX DL DF DG APO Aspherical IF for Canon.

Isn't 6.3 a bit slow at 200mm?

Ohhh - maybe I have it wrong and left out a few designations.
It might actually be the 12-300mm f/1.2 Macro EX DL DF DG UC RF APO Aspherical IF Hyperzoom for Canon

Constant aperture???? Wow.
That would make the front element the same width as the FL right? Wonder how much a 300mm CP costs????
You'd have to hire sherpas to tote the sucker for you too!

Wasn't this announced more than a year ago?

This was announced almost a year ago.

What's been missing is AVAILABILITY.

Hopefully, this announcement means it's finally shipping. Though the price seems considerably higher than was floating around before: in the mid 500s. At over 800, it's more than the Nikon 18-200 VR, which has an ultrasonic motor focus. Probably the low availability of that lens, and the high aftermarket prices convinced them to try to cash in.

I thought the 18-125 was a great lens, but Sigma only carries a 1year guarantee, and the Nikon a 5 year guarantee. And considering my Sigma malfunctioned/broke after 1.5 years of frequent use, I'd be hesitant to spend that much on the Sigma. (Not an issue, since I already bought the Nikon and even switched systems for it!)

Only one word comes to mind with this lens......

....SLOW.

Tamrons 18-250 and 18-200 are 6.3 on the long end arent they i know the

I can tell you a compact with this focal range its completely normal. Theyd have to make a larger heavier lens to get around it.

Its not that its slow for 200m its the fact that it goes all the way from 18mm with a physcial max aperture of 3.5 when you zoom out that far its gonna get effectivley slower.

I have an inside edge. I'll sell it to you cheap. As soon as I sell one to Brad, even though he STILL left off the "L" designation.
