Here would be a fun challenge: Lord of the Rings! Or something along the lines of a fantasy theme It would only be fair since there was a Matrix challenge... =-P

Can you tell I just got back from the movie? Heheh...

I went at 12:09 a.m. this morning. Drove an hour and a half to Salt Lake City to see it with my brothers. IT was AWESOME! I loved it! It was definately my favorite of the trilogy. Go see it! It was woth not sleeping at all last night. : )

BTW, I don't agree that it was darker, it was dark, but I thought 2 towers was darker. This seemed to have more emotion than the last one, which I liked much better.

Did you do the "marthon run" or just Return of the King? I would have had to drive 2+ hours to see it at Midnight. If it was close by, I would have loved to have done that.

One of the movie theaters nearby where I live had some oil paintings commissioned for their lobby right before the opening of the third one. I know they had to watch some copyright issues of using the characters or stuff.

I thought that there was more dark material. TT was sprinkled with a bit more humor with Smeagol/Gollum and Gimli and Legolas , which I really loved. There definitely was a lot more emotion in this one, which was great. It was a great ending for the movies. =)

No I didn't do the marathon run. You'd really have to be devoted to do that, how long would that be? 9 hours or more. Whew! Would be fun though, but not starting at midnight. I got home at 5:30 a.m. as it was. : )

Definitely not starting at midnight...noon would probably work better. ;-) 9+ hours would definitely get to a person. I'm sure they would have to have intermissions somewhere along the line.

Thanks for the article! From what I can tell, those paintings look wonderful. Too bad the artist is only selling prints. =-)

I too did the midnight show and got home at 4:10 this morning. Would I do it again DEFINATELY! It was great and I intend to go back and see it again. There is no way you can see everything in one viewing!

My roommate did the marathon session. First two extended movies with 25 minute intermission and 30 minute intermission before the third one. Started at 2pm and finished at 1am. The response.... 'the seats were comfy'.

I felt really disappointed - disappointed that it's all over perhaps. But I think more so that I was let down in not having the whole Shire scene at the end when Saruman and Wormtongue get bitch slapped. That would have tied up all the loose ends.

Still it was great - special effects were awesome and I enjoyed the whole Eowyn hair shampoo scene "I'm not a man, I'm a babe, chew my sword".

Thanks, from those of us who haven't seen it yet.

I saw ROTK last night - was disappointed with the end missing the shire scene too, but all can be forgiven as it was a spectacular movie. It's been a long time since I had to grip the seat to stop me from standing up and cheering (during certain scenes)!

Go and see it and read the book!

The LOTR ROTK doesn't come in cinemas here in Iceland untill the 26th of December :(

But I got a ticket to a pre show (dont know the english word) which is the 20th, I can't wait.

Sorry everyone, I saw it a week and a half ago. One of the bennies of working in radio and being considered "press"!!
/gratuitous bragging

I thought the entire series was great. I loved the Matrix movies but felt kind of unsatisfied when they ended. (I saw Matrix Revolutions two days before it's release.... I could have waited.) I had really no interest in LOTR before the movies, but found myself heartily enjoying them.

I think it's a great idea for a challenge as well- I'm sure we'd see lots of rings, but I'd be more curious to see if anyone would try to dress up like Gollum or Frodo!!

I believe it / part of it is going to be in the DVD extended version.

edit: This is not the case, only some Gandalf vs Saruman + other scenes, but not the shire bit. :(

I just finished the books and the extended Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers DVD's (8 dvd'd) are on their way. I think I'll skip the cinema and wait for the Return of the King DVD. :)
