Hello and thank you in advance for helping me with this question.
I have a mom who's daughter has been active in modeling and has had contracts with modeling agencies. Her current contract is ready to expire, and I now have the priviledge of redoing her modeling portfolio. This little gal is about 5 years old.
The mom and I both agree that what she needs is a CD of the images. But I am not in the habit of selling my images. So, how should I charge for this??? I want to make it profitable for me, but I don't want to scare her away by not making it economical for her. I want her to purchase the prints from me at a discount once she's bought the CD. This way, I know she's using a proper print company, and not making my images look bad by going some place cheap to print.
So, how much should I charge for this package? And any other advice?
Modeling Session
CD of Images
Maybe 10 free prints
And a discount on future prints.

I've seen this range from $200-$500. And I would say that is reasonable and professional.

I don't have any advice on the exact price to charge this client, but I will offer a thought on trying to keep prices from scaring specific clients away. Try to set your prices where you think they should be. This can be challenging, but it is definitely at a point where you would make a profit. From there you can offer a discount to specific clients if you really want to work for them are willing to accept something less. This way to start to establish what you believe to be appropriate rates while doing favors where justified.

You could consider doing it on a time for cd (TFCD) basis... this gives them the photos in both large and web size on the cd, and gives you the opportunity to use the photos as you see fit...(you can shoot for her photos and whatever concept photos you need) like for stock... HOWEVER... if you do it this way... make sure you use a good contract!
Just an idea...

I'd rethink that package. If we're talking about an actual legit modeling agency, then 1 or 2 killer shots and a contact sheet will do. Modeling portfolios are about quality, not quantity.

Thank you, this is a very good point. I was keeping this kind of thought in the back of my head. What would one do with SO many different shots?? I think I'll just sort of stick with my regular price plan, and add a proof book and comp cards in there somehow! I am definetly uncomfortable with putting images on a CD for someone.
