I'm debating about getting a membership, and I'd like to hear from some of the members why they feel it's worthwhile to pay for membership. What was the thing that made you do it?
Also, a specific question about stuff currently being voted on: I can see on my front page how many votes I have, how many comments, and what the comments are. I'm assuming these stats update hourly or something. How does this differ for members?

Members have a button saying "Update" and it does exactly what it says it does :) The best thing about membership to me is DPC Prints.

I especially like having the available webspace that the members get, easy to quickly upload a pic to show someone what Im talking about. The extra challenges are nice too. Plus, being part of this nice community, I see no reason not to help support it. :)

The Extra Challenge! I think the members' challenge is always a little easier to vote on, too - not as many entries, etc. Plus, this month you can EDIT!!!
Also, I think that Drew and Langdon deserve the money - I know they are paying through the nose to keep this place up, so we gotta support them for providing us a place to go to avoid doing any work!

Advantages and my reasons for joining.....
1. Portfolio (Evidence of intent to market)
2. Members only challenges (critiques seem more civil)
3. Prefer blue over grey

I agree. For what this site offers the $20 or whatever it is a year is nothing.
I also think there is too much available to the non-members, nothing against them, mind you. But, if the Open challenges were less frequent, and the non-members didn't have as much access to the site (i.e. all the Forums) there would be more of a reason to join.
In regards to the forums, right now there is one Members Only forum. I think all the forums should be Members Only with maybe one Open Forum.
I don't remember, are the How To's and Tutorials open to non-members, as well?

| I like having the benefit of a portfolio, and the extra challenges that members only are allowed to enter. I would definitely recommend you become a member, somehow it seems to make it that much more "official", not to mention fun. |

I'd second the DPCPrints thing. Not because I can sell, which is really just an added bonus, but because the prints I order for myself are just so nice looking. They look so much better than what I submit, I'm not sure how they do it.

Yeah, have you seen his taste in shirts. Its a good thing someone else chooses the color. :)
Really I don't know that you get much else except one forum and about twice the number of challenges. The main thing that mattered for me was supporting the site financially. It's $20 or $25 USD. If that can help keep the site going then its easily worth it to me be a part of this highly interactive community where I can converse and share with others who pursue photography.

$20/25 a year ... the best value for money I've found in a long while. Really think you should get all this for nothing?

Just one question, Is the group really international or is it meant to be a mainly U.S. aimed group ?
I have enjoyed my time as a non-member and browser, and think you need to "window shop" before you buy. In my case due to the friendly responses I have had here (apart from you know who),I am willing to join very soon,

One of the truly great things about this site is the international community of photographers.
You can maybe buy a decent book on photography with your $25, but your photography will improve much more over a year here than by reading a book!
O yeah, and second pretty much all of the advantages listed already by others. Join, & don't look back.

| I paid for one month ($5) to try it out - but I can tell you, I'm gonna pay the yearly renewal! I'm definitely hooked, and while there's not a lot of extra $$$ in our household (stay at home mom) I think it's worth it, and like everyone else says, the owners of the site deserve support for setting up such a great community! |

| I keep wanting to join, but it's a bit of a problem because Paypal isn't available in South Africa. In the New Year I really must try to sort out another method of payment. |

I just became a member one hour ago, so this is my first post as a member. I can't say there is too many different things but I sure enjoy the fact that now I can submit to members challenges.
One thing though... I don't know where the update button is yet. |

I really want to be a member also been trying to clear up paypal with my bank and stuff but it hasnt happened quickly enough. Does anyone know or can the site councils tell me if there is any other method of payment?

I was in the same situation one month ago. I decided to become a member and I had to open the paypal account. But then I had to wait and I was so anxious.... I felt I just could not wait another minute. Though.... a month went by and today I received in the mail the four digit number and I was able to become a member in two minutes.

I suggest that you use the "help/contact" link on the DPC main page and ask the site admins. I know there are some alternatives, and I'm sure they'll work diligently to help you out.

I'm in Japan.
Of course, the server times, a lot of members and, by extension, a lot of the forum topics are USA-centred. That's only to be expected given the member-base.
However, there are many, many non-North American users and the challenges try to be culture-independant (generally successfully). Anyway, whenever a member does say something very-USA centred, such as forget about the existence of other time zones, weather patterns for certain months, or bad (?i.e. non-American) spelling, the others soon jump in to balance the score. We're a lively bunch.
Join and help keep DPC culture-independant. The more, the merrier, the better.
