Hey everyone,

Did a couple of searches, but did not find exactly what I was looking for. So, I figured I'd put it out to the experts.

My BIL (Brother-in-Law) is looking for a new point-and-shoot digital camera, but he wants a very fash refresh time (time between shots). Like most digital camera users (Non-SLR) He hates getting the lag between shots when trying to shoot quick pictures of his toddler daughter.

Any suggestions. Let's say his budget is up to $250 USD.

He's definitely not looking to get into the SLR market so it needs to be a point and shoot with an decent optical zoom. He's using a Fuji Fine Pix (4MP) right now.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks,
Adam

Any P&S I've used will take pics in bursts just like a dSLR. The thing that causes the lag is the displaying of the image on the LCD which is also the viewfinder and it goes away if you hit the 1/2 shutter.

Thanks. I know I have a burst mode on my Sony. I'm not sure if his FinePix has the option, but I can suggest it to him.

I was just curious if there were any PnS cameras that have faster refresh times than others.

While burst mode is great, I don't think you'd want it on all the time as you generally only want 1 pic. It's that occasional time you do want a really quick follow up shot. You go to push the button again only to find that you're still waiting for the camera to finish processing the first shot. That's why I love my SLR :) I just told him I'd see if anyone had some suggestions.

Dallas, my impression is that all of the recent P&S have basically eliminated shutter lag. That's what you're talking about, and what might delay shooting the next shot.

At any rate, the Canon S2 IS can shoot 2.4 frames per second, and I use that mode regularly. You control the mode (1-shot, burst, timer) using a dedicated button, so it's very easy to switch back and forth (and I do).

I'd bet the Canon S3 IS, my camera's successor, has the same button.
