I was just curious why torrent sites are still up and running? Is there anything legal about downloading photoshop cs3 without even paying for it?

I am just curious how come they are not shut down?

Because people don't download the files from the site, only the means of connecting p2p with other people. The sites always have disclaimers about only being allowed to share legal things etc etc

And yes, it is illegal to download CS3 on torrent.

First of all your question assumes that Torrents don't have a legal use. Torrents were originally created to distribute HUGE Linux OS disk images quickly and efficiently. Only after people begin using it for movies and other software.

A 700 MB Linux CD image used to take 24-48 hours to download. Today using a BitTorrent you can download it in 2-4 hours.

Anyone can use anything for illegal purposes. Does that me that it should be disallowed?

Torrents, as a technology, are value-neutral. Some people use them for legitimate purposes, others for illegitimate purposes. The illegitimate uses are the ones that attract the most attention though.

Similar situation as with a CD or DVD writer. The technology is legal, but can be used for illegal purposes.

Let's make all computers illegal since people can use them for illegal reasons! Yea. That's the ticket.

Downloading a piece of software is not illegal but downloading and using cracks/serialz an other material to illegaly use the program is.
