It was possible to retire a submission during, or maybe even after, a challenge.

Unfortunately I submitted a rather crappy photo to scents and aromas..

I am sorry, I had no time to think or shoot and I was not very inspired by the subject also.

But I generally like to give it a try.

The photo has been correctly criticized for its many defects, actually including the DOF which was the only thing I liked in it (and therefore the only issue I would disagree upon).

Now my point is: why keeping collecting rubbish? It would be nice to have the chance of doing some cleaning up. I know that the change could affect procedures but not necessarily it has to be immediate.

I mean.. it is something to think about IMHO.

Think of it as the difference between biography and autobiography.

Well.. it is a brilliant joke but I missed the relationship with my issue which maybe I did not expose clearly: why not make clean-up of the pictures which the authors (or even a jury) recognize as crappy after a second tought or further analysis?

If you tell me that it is impossible to have second toughts at challenge time, I understand and respect that, but on the other end, if you choose that path you keep collecting and cumulating rubbish.

The temptation to make some cleaning is strong to me, but I understand that it could be just the devil.. ;)

Sounds like a great idea, obviously all my entries which have scored under 6 should be removed as they show great misunderstanding by the voters.

If you dont want the crappy photographs in the challenge/portfolio then dont submit them. If your first few/past challenge entries are embarassing then consider them a learning experience and hope they show the evolution of your photography.

"I had no time to think or shoot"

Seems to me like you had a week to think about the challenge, and to reconcile your "second thoughts".

I'm in the same position. I was planning on possibly not even entering, but at the last minute came up with some (to me) rather nice entries. I guess I chose the wrong one. Everyone who's commented so far (3) has said something about the DOF, which as you said, was my favorite aspect of my photo.
