My brain is frozen when it comes to an interesting shot for propaganda, I have shot several different subjects for this challenge and they are all so boring, I am going to sit this one out I think, is anyone else having problems with this challenge. When I think of propaganda I think of text, such as books, magazines, and etc, displaying different views on politics and etc. somehow setting up for this shot was boring to me, pictures of magazines and books just did not get the creative juices flowing, I guess I am just tired, good luck to everyone entering this challenge, I cannot wait to see the subjects chosen on this one.

My mind is only full of blanks too. That makes two of us sitting this one out :-)

I myself would have loved to have been able to include text with PS to an image.

Most propaganda posters have text that helps get the idea across. A good example of of this are propaganda posters of the World Wars.

P.S. - Oh yeah... and it`s great that Gary is sitting this one out. Better chance for the rest of us to score at least one place higher! :P

Can't your title just serve as the text? Most propoganda has short, easily digested phrases anyway.

Oh, and neenee, I haven't even come up with an idea to make an attempt at, so you're ahead of me.

Well...
This is the first challenge I've ever participated in, and what a challenge to join in to! I had an idea, but I'm a "beginner" photography-wise, so I don't know if I managed to adequately portray my idea. And it took me three days of shooting to get one that I thought looked decent enough to submit. But it was hard! When you see my subject, you'll understand why. I'm hoping for something nice and easy for the next challenge. Maybe "Desserts." :)

I am in the same boat. I have an idea and I can picture exactly how I want it to come out too. But I just don't have the experience/know how to make it work. If I could convert the picture in my head into about 300,000 pixels in just the right order and color it would be great. But it's easier said than done. I have been procrastinating trying it out of fear of disappointment, but may just take a shot at it tonight.

It would have been cool if text could have been incorporated. Although it's true that you can use the title to display the message, it doesn't have the same visual impact!

I've got some ideas going round in my head (especially if you look at historic propaganda posters: National Archives - Powers of Persuasion) but I lack a model to realize them. And I don't always want to annoy my family and friends, hehe.

I personally think propaganda is a VERY interesting subject in itself.

Frankly, I don't think that one place or ten places higher would give me the same amount of happiness and contemplative pleasure that a photo well done is able to offer.
If all the good photographers from this site will decide to make place to the rest of us, winning a ribbon will never be the same. It won't be worth competing. But this is only my opinion.

Yeah, I'm sitting this one out too. I've tried to come up with ideas all week, asked all of my friends for possible insights, and my muse seems to be asleep. Everything I came up with is just too darned boring. It's much more difficult to do this well than it seemed at first. :)

This is one of the most difficult challenges I have seen on this web site and I have been here a long time. I will be submitting an entry but the picture is more to make a point than to be photographically beautiful. If my score reflects it, so be it. I think this challenge offers one the opportunity to represent an opinion in a graphic way. My picture will have no words in it. Just an image to ponder.

Darn I am glad I aint the only one feeling the same! This has been the toughest for me too! I gonna try with what I have though and hope and pray for a miracle! Good Luck to everyone submitting, and c'mon yall try even if its boring to you, you never know!

I am relatively new to this site and I too find this challenge, erm, really literally challenging this time round. Not too sure how to represent the theme, but i tried my best, I hope mine wouldn be too out of point. Looking forward to seeing how the rest had reacted to the topic.

After thinking hard all week I finally came up with one that I really love, but I lack the resources to fulfill it. And sadly I don't think I'll be able to come up with another one within the next 24+ hours.

I hear all y'all! I am completely stuck, and in my history class all we have been talking about is propaganda, that has driven me more insane because I am truly shootin blanks on this one. There are several things I could have tried, but, like others have said, I just don't have the resources. I figure since I really don't have any good ideas, that anything I submitted would be a stretch and that wouldn't fly to well with me. What I am trying to say is, good luck to anyone who did submit, but as for me, I'll sit this one out, because really, this challenge is really well, challenging.

Ditto-I'm sitting this one out as well. I have two ideas --one I need to be 1700 miles from where I am situated and the other is just too hard to photograph and get the idea across without words.

I came up with a do-able one while sitting in my first period today. It's not as strong as I'd like it to be, but it's my first real attmept at taking one to fit the challenge.

I hope the voters will take the titles into consideration on these, that's they only way it could be expressed...

I am sitting this one out. Although I had a creative idea.

A nice bright shiny new iPod sits in the foreground while other mp3 players dull in color are in the background.

I have a lot of mp3 players I could use for the background. Just lacking an iPod... [until Christmas! :D]

I'm not sure if that would fit for propoganda though...

I'd think that was more of advertisement than propaganda, but then there's a rather fine line between the two. Maybe next challenge should be "advertisement" :)

Boy, I feel the same way! I just joined a couple of weeks ago, and have been totally obsessed with submitting for every challenge. I can't think of anything creative for this one..on to surprises!! Maybe I will surprise myself with a good idea.
11/18/2003 10:16:01 PM · #20
This is AGONIZING! I don't even care anymore how I score or whatever, I just want to KNOW! :)
I've never participated in a challenge before, and the waiting is killing me... eeeeeeek.

Or I just need a new challenge to work on... hmm
11/18/2003 10:22:15 PM · #21
I did an entry but then decided to not subit it, as it was in the end nothing more than a snap shot. I might post it up later today if there is no entry in the challenge that is even remotely akin to it (so as not to influence anything).

I drew a huge blank on this one for a good idea.

I can't find one yet for Surprise either, but I know there is one hiding just around the corner :)

Remember..propaganda does not have to have a bad connotation to it..It is like anything else in the media or maybe advertising. Even though it is aimed usually at mass and large audiences to promote a certain feeling, it should not always have a bad feel to it. There is plenty of propaganda that is good!!!
11/18/2003 11:29:32 PM · #23
Mine isn't much more than a nice snapshot, but it should have some entertainment value, I think.
11/18/2003 11:29:47 PM · #24
I had an idea that I did not have the means to carry out, but it was probably for the better, it may have been a little too contraversial anyway, so I too will be sitting this one out.

This was a tough challenge, I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of images this one will bring out, might be a fun one to vote on.

Well, I am sure it will have value. This challenge seemed easier at the start I think than most would think. I sifted through a myriad of pictures to get the right one.
