the challenge isnt called "lets see how shallow your dof can be"
the description is:
"Shallow depth of field is often used to isolate a subject from its surrounding environment or to make it stand out. Find a creative use of a shallow depth of field for this week's challenge."
if it makes it stand out, theres nothing realyl moreyou can do.
so stop all your not shallow enough DoF comments!

EDIT to change my idiotic mistake

You could set it on fire. That usually helps the subject to stand out.

I agree 100% with your analysis of the voters in this challenge. Well said! People who apply their own interpretation to a challenge are not being fair and objective.

Isn't it just nasty to wake up with a cat on your chest, breathing its catfoody breath up your nose? Then you open your eyes and it's really just your wife?

its worse when your dog who licks his ass all day wakes you up by licking your face. and if he licks your lips, you basically just licked your dogs ass! thats no fun

Actually, I think it is possible for the dof to be too shallow, and I'm beginning to think that might be my problem (though I haven't gotten any comments yet.)

If you have a razor thin dof (yes, it's shallow) but it is slighly off where the eye "expects" it to be, then it may appear that nothing is in focus, so the dof isn't working particularly well to make the subject stand out.

edit -- my fingers are spastic this morning

It's even worse when it's the other end of the cat blowing stink up your nose.

Dustin! What the heck are you doing stirring things up? I've already had a posse come by my door and threaten my pet Aardvark because I raised hell on another thread. Your ranting is NO way to win virtual friends and cultivate meaningful virtual relationships. Think about it man!

BTW, isn't DOF a beer on the Simpsons? ;-)

I'm so annoyed and stressed because of my job that I am going to vote down anything with DOF wider than 1mm.

You are entitled to your own opinions, but not to your own facts.

Technically, wouldn't that be like kissing your dogs ass? Unless you sleep with your tongue hanging out. :D

Aren't these technicalities so much fun? He-he.

Dustin, I'm afraid part of the challenge here is to deal with everyone's interpretation of a challenge. With hundreds of users, the opinions about how to translate a challenge description can vary quite a bit. The challenge descriptions are often vague enough to allow for many different interpretations and all of them are meeting challenge. Smile, enjoy the day, the voters are going to do whatever the voters are going to do. :)

I'll meet everyone after school, by the virtual flagpole, for a virtual fistfight.

Oh Dustin ..... you poor sod. The virtual mob is gathering for a virtual beating of your virtual character. I know! Quickly, pull out a Thesaurus and confuse them!

Then, what you probably should have said, was "so stop all of your not shallow enough dof."

:)
