I have set a rule for myself to give at least the same number of comments as I receive. Some people want to achieve 100% of the images but that is just too much for me.

This rule is realistic for me, although still hard work ...... 43 comments and counting......

Try it some time !! It forces you to go back, look again, make comments, make suggestions.

And I hope it makes this site more worthwhile.

Good idea willem. I have been trying to comment on about ten percent of the photos I vote on. If I go too much beyond that I find I am just giving attaboys, not quality comments.

Brief comments on a few photos every day isn't so bad.

I also try to comment on about the same number that comment on mine. I do tend to do more and go back to look again at the shots rated. I do at times try to counter the people who score everyone bad by giving no lower than a 5, which I did in the last post.

If everyone would do this you would end up giving comments to every single photo - and receiving few hundred comments.

Wich would be great.

But if we skip the joke - I agree, everyone should do this. You can learn so much from these comments.

In the Infinite challenge, I did end up getting 14 comments, which I appreciate most highly. But, I got one in there that was absolutely EXCELLENT (thanks KevinRiggs). Just wanted to thank all, but especially publicly say that he did great work and took the time to look at one shot for a good amount of time to see that it had been an infrared shot, and give it a full out critique! Thanks again.
The pic is here if people want to see a damn good critique.

That is a great comment left by Kevin Riggs...

I love leaving comments - it's actually the main way in which i participate in this site. I leave quite a lot and most users seem to find them useful. Of course the ratio of comments made to comments marked as helpful (in my profile) is misleading, as it is for many of us who have been here a while, as a vast number of my comments were made before the "helpful" tick boxes were introduced.

Every now and then I get PM feedback on the comments I've made - answers or explanations to questions asked or points I've made - and I have to say that this makes me feel that the comments are actually worthwhile and that I might occasionally make a point that is really of use to someone.

It seems that everyone wants more comments but I'm not always sure how many photographers actually really think about the comments received - especially if those comments include anything negative...
