... that are good but aren't "DPC friendly".

I had the idea for this thread because I'm getting a little antsy from being able to predict what the ribboning shots will look like before voting even starts. Between having the idea and typing the post, I saw the thread about the awesome Craptography website. My idea is kind of like that.. except that I don't want photos that the photographer thinks are bad. I want photos that tell a story, have some depth, or are just "good" even though they're not "eye candy" - so post yours here!

soo many in my 'folio... ;-)

this managed to get my lowest percentage so far. i still think it's a good image, just a bit close to the bone for many. ah well, i only carry on what marcell duchamp started... ;-)

still one of my favorite shots. I know the horizon is tilted but I still love it. a few commentors thought the color was off but didn't realize that it was on purpose.

Here's One

.

And here's another

This one's too foggy

And this one's too "I don't get it"

And here, apparently, the subject 's not clearly enough 'described'

And here the 'subject' lacks form, scale and, probably, 'interest'

As does this

.

Ah, I could go on...

Two shots I knew were doomed before the start because I used processes "outside the box". "Good Morning" in "Duotones II":

Duotone, using two process colors instead of a process color and black, to make a moon shot look like the sun on a clear sky morning.

And just finished "By Candlelight" in "HDR":

A shot with >12 stop dynamic range which certainly showcases the power of Photomatix Pro, but an indoor closeup and not what people think HDR should be used for. (It was overcast outside, forcing me to do something radical if I were to enter this contest at all).

In both of these cases I vacillated over deleting the entry right up to the last minute, but decided they were interesting enough to leave in even though I expected they would be clobbered.

Well ok, here are a few more:

Too dark and quiet, too central, not central enough, missing a cat or a mouse or a purse or midget or a voluptuous thigh misted with star dust:

Too obvious an inversion, too destructively processed, too dehumanized, not minimal enough for the minimalist, too trouvee for a set-up:

Too much negative dark space, too straight on and sharp, not soft enough for a postcard, lacking scenic context:

Too dark and draped for nostalgia, too suggestive of death, too objectivist for sorrow, too much of a stretch between capture and title, too mixed-genre, too much black and too much white:

Attempting to be surreal, knowing it wouldn't exactly please the masses. I was hoping the patient viewer would be as astounded as I was, by the thought of vision and sight being reborn each time we blink our eyes.

a few I like that few others do.

I am starting to be able to predict the "kind" of people that will like each of my images, which to me is important and a big part of why I am interested in this site. I believe you can tell a lot about a person by just looking through their portfolio so whenever I recieve a comment I will take a look through that persons images to find out what audience each images appeals too. I find this informative, interesting and sometimes very surprising.

I like this photo for the challenge it was entered but it lacked the required eye candy to do well.

Whoa, I hadn't thought of that. I get it now.
