Following Kiwi's lead and posting these in bitesize chunks, because there's a lot of them, here's my holiday snaps...

A few shots of the cottage we stayed in here.

After driving over 300 miles overnight and arriving at 6am, what do you do?... Hit the beach of course : )

Day 1 : Padstow/Crackington Haven

Yassir, awesome pics Bod, I just looked at all of them. My top favourite is Mannin, followed by Customary.

Were those guys already surfin at 6am?

Waiting for day two now......

Very nice pics, bod. I love the close-up shot of the human statue, the dog with the stick (it's more like a log! :-D) and the stable door. Nice job.

I love it when people post their albums. It's nice to see the rest of the world. :-)

Nope, only complete nutters on the beach at 6am :-/ The surfers started crawling out of their VW campervans a few hours later.

Me too. I've seen some awesome sights on here over the last year.

Great shots, Bod. Thanks for sharing. (BTW when I read the title I thought I was going to see photos taken in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada). lol !

Okay, didn't get up to too much on the Sunday so I'll post these today too.

Day 2: Up for the sunrise, a country walk with the dog, and later on to Launceston Castle.

And yes, this is Cornwall, England. I didn't know somebody else had nicked the name but I shoulda guessed ; )

Day 2 is not a disappointment after seeing the Day 1 pics yesterday. Wonderful stuff there.

I like the way you see things and photograph them, you always bring out the best in an object. Even on overcast days.

Is there more?

Glad you're enjoying them ... now get back to sorting out more Russia shots! ; )

About 5 more days worth at a guess ; )
I'll post Day 3 this evening when I finish sorting/captioning them. This is when the holiday really got started.

Fantastic stuff, as always!
I wish my holiday snaps looked like this.
How much did the cottage cost?

Nicely done! I can remember when looking at peoples vacation pics used to be boring, thats not the case here! Some really cool shots here.

Day 3

Starting off with a walk along the clifftops from Crackington Haven, then onto Tintagel, birthpace of King Arthur in the afternoon.

My original plan, to walk the 10 miles along the coast to Tintagel (and back!) was scuppered when Jazz (now about 90 in dog years) started struggling with the steep climbs. Probably a good decision to turn back because it started raining :-/

Some very nice pictures there, Bod. You have a great eye. We holidayed in the same area and my shots are much more prosaic than yours (although the family did frown on me spending *all* my time taking pictures :-). I particularly like 'Thru the gate' and 'Country Road' - you've turned ordinary subjects into something special.

How do you like your 10D? Do you find it opens up possibilities you didn't have with your old camera?

Thanks for sharing.

I'm lucky in having a girlfriend who just lets me get on with it, so I can spend all my time taking pictures : )
Of course buying her a camera too was a good move ; )
Whereabouts did you stay? We were a few miles outside Bude.

I don't know about new possibilities yet, I'm still trying to figure out how to work it, but the second I looked through the viewfinder it was like a whole different world. I only wish it had arrived before my holidays :-/

We stayed at St Ervan and in a very nice B&B run by some very friendly people. I can thoroughly recommend it (wasn't cheap though).

Cool. What did you have before? A Finepix S602Z wasn't it? How do they compare? And what lenses did you get with the 10D? (Trying to persuade my missus to let me buy one :-)

I have some shots from the hols - I'll try to find times to post the better ones. Did you make it down to Heligan? Magical place.

Yep, the 602 is now in the girlfriends possession - that made it easier to persuade her that the 10D was a good idea ; )
There really is no comparison - everything is so sharp & clear straight out of the camera compared to the 602, and the lack of noise is fantastic.

I've started out with the Canon 28-135 (same range as the 602), the 50 f/1.8 (everyone says get one!) and the Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO (needed a cheap zoom to keep me going till next year). Also a set of extension tubes for macro work.

I look forward to seeing them. We didn't make it to Heligan, partly because I don't think they allow dogs in, partly because there's too much down there to cram into one week!

Day 4
Wake up at the back!

A quick stop at Restormel Castle before heading on to The Eden Project.

If you only look at one album out of the whole collection I think this is the one to go for.

.

If anybody can put a name to any of the plants I would be very grateful - just leave a comment on the relevant photo. Cheers : )

Bod, man! You do that 10D real justice. The Eden Project is awesome, you got some gallery stuff in there.

How come you know so many words for "weed"? DO I have to start worrying 'bout you?

Anyway, you forgot the word "hooch" :-)

The 10D didn't arrive until after my holidays *sob*
Just goes to show ... it's not the camera ( ... it's the subject lol!)

c/o dictionary.com - I went looking for the 'proper' name and there was this nice list, so I nicked it : )

Hooch? That's that nasty fizzy alcoholic pop that 14 year olds drink around here. Blech

Day 5
Huge thanks to Trinch, Kaja and especially Bela for the flower/plant id's : )

Newquay. My best effort at shooting surfers (still not so impressive :-/) and an aqaurium (low light = high ISO & slow shutter *blech*).
If anybody is any good at putting names to strange fish please feel free to stick a comment on!

On the way home it became clear that we were going to have a cracking sunset. Grab the map, let's find a West facing beach! First stop Widemouth Bay, then onto Bude Haven where my sports challenge entry was shot.

Wow! You've convinced me now Bod. Cornwall is definitely moving up fast on my "places to visit" list.
10/12/2003 08:16:16 AM · #24
seriously impressive bod. Any idea how many shots you took in total, to get these results? This all gives the impression that you just open the shutter and hey!, it's another wonderful photo ... :-)

These are simply marvelous photos! What memories they have brought back to me. My husband and I over a couple of years of vacations walked the South-West Coast Path and I recognize many of your places! Wow! Thanks for the memories. I'm going back for another look!
