Hey everyone. I'm actually enjoying being a member of the CC and going through the entries is helping me quite a bit. However, I'm kind of worried that people are going to look at what I have to say, then look at my portfolio and see all of my sub-5 entries and dismiss what I have to say or worse, start bashing me and my ideas.

Any suggestions/comments?

Thanks,

Mike

I'm pretty new to the CC (and thanks, you reminded me that I need to do a few critiques!) but I bet that if you take your time and do a fairly thorough critique, folks will appreciate it regardless of what's in your portfolio. In the infamous words of that shoe company, "just do it"!

Just because you aren't so proficient with the camera doesn't mean you do not know what is a good photo IYHO! Also, the longer you are in the Club the better your shots will become. You will start thinking about what you said as a CC member when you are setting up the shot. You will not even know you are doing this...

Thanks...it's what I needed to hear. Especially after doing 11 critiques this week. I can see that my photos are getting better now. Also, I take between 5 and 10 minutes on each critique, as I want to be fair and thorough.

And I think my proficiency lacks are more with the PP and the low-end camera, but that's getting better too.

Thanks again.

Firstly, Thanks for being in the CC. Your involvement with the CC is one of the things that makes this site so great. As Melethia says, do a thorough job on each shot and you will learn a great deal. The receiver's of your comments will appreciate your insights. Keep at it, and thanks again.

cryingdragon, you've done eleven. Great. You're helping someone else and you're helping yourself as well.

In addition, you're making me feel a little guilty, since I've been taking something of a break from Critiquing this last little bit.

So, keep up the very good work, and I'll be along to help with the backlog.

I just received a nasty PM from one of my latest critiques, What do you know...blah, blah, blah,....I've been teaching photography...blah, blah, blah...., yet I see in a recent forum posting he doesn't understand why his Action Shot entry was only considered average. He asked for an opinion, I gave one, he received one. Don't take it personally, as many people have a lot of emotion invested in their images. Maybe in a month or two he'll revisit my critique and something will click. If not, so what.

What worries me is that I'm hesitant to critique this week, as I know I'll get all soft focus entries and I have no clue as to what makes a good soft focus image good.

Keep doing it.

Tim

Edit: spelling.

I agree. You got a pretty good eye.
