I've started my photoblog called "daily dose of imagery" and the premise is that I challenge myself to post one photo a day no matter what. I thought you might like to check it out and tell me what you think. you can leave comments for individual photos as well, and all the photos are archived in the archive page.

here's the link:

thanks,
sam

Most photoblogs stem from a blog or weblog. There are a lot of blog software out there, it depends on what your server runs. There are also blogs such as journalspace.com that runs it all for you, but it's not as customizable as if you were running one on your own website.

The more popular blogs are run on Movable Type, but pMachine and Greymatter are also fairly popular. There are others too, and if those didnt work for you then just do a google search and you be inundated with pages.

I use Movable Type which is an amazing (and FREE) application which you have to install on your hosting server. I love it and highly recommend it.

Thanks for the info regarding blogs. I've wanted to do this for awhile, but it always seemed too hard (like the ones you guys linked to). I found //www.fotola.com and that is 10x easier to upload to and update.

I also started a daily gallery in September here:

This one seems simple to use, I did a quick try. However you never know how long it's going to last or when it's goig to cost x$ per month.

I uploaded Graymatter to my website and it was 'pretty' easy although you need to be 'a little bit' techie ( just rights to change on some files, ...)

I need to play more with Graymatter, I have not seen a way to have a thumbmail in the daily entry yet (but I did not look that long).

From my quick search , if you want something free, nice, flexible and original ... heavy knowledge of html/xml will be needed.

I have been keeping a photo blog Everyday Renee since June now. It's a fun thing to do though when life throws you a curve, it's hard to keep it updated -- though I always manage.

Do you guys post a new photo everyday -- or take a new photo everyday? That's my question.

Samtimes, your photoblog is great. I enjoyed it. Smellyfish, I really enjoyed your photoblog too. We should all link up!!

One question: I'm looking for a way to allow comments -- any code or software available to do it. Right now, I am doing my photoblog in FrontPage manually. It's pretty easy!

I have a photo/writing combined blog that I started about a week ago. I use the services of blogger.com. This has got to be the easiest free service. I hate programming websites, so I like the fact that you can customize your blog as much or as little as you like. Also there's the fact that you can make changes continusouly with no interruptions or lose of data. My blog is found at //members.rogers.com/biginjapan/

Being Clever, I loved your blog, (although it has put Alphaville's BIG IN JAPAN in my head and I still haven't managed to get rid of it! good old days ;D )
Renee i enjoyed your blog too. to answer your question, as much as I like too, I can't TAKE 1 photo a day that I'm happy with and post it, so sometimes the photos I post are from my archive in the last 3 years.
smellyfish, your photoblog is excellent, thanks for sharing.
and about the blogging tools, lionlm is right, for the solutions that are server based and more flexible, unfortunately you have to be a little bit of a techie. I think BLOGGER offers the easiest solution, since everything happens on their server (the downside being, when theire server is down, your blog is down too)

sorry for the long reply :)

Thank you all guys for clicking,

Sam

Renne, enetation and dotcomments are two comment-only programs. You can use them while updating manually but it's a bit more work. If you're going to do something everyday, I'd probably suggest using some kind of blog software...most of them come with comments built in now.

Thanks Sam. I just started, so I know my blog is a little rough. I've been trolling through yours, very impressive. I only left you one comment so far, sorry!

I've been the Photo A Day thing at PBase for a little over a month now. I had been going through a photographic lull for a while and decided to bite the bullet and try anyhow. It's amazing. I'm working pretty long hours right now and I still get to take and post a new photo a day. It makes you think about them ahead of time and also try and get the best out of photos you might otherwise not like on first sight and therefore never process. But best of all, I am slowly working my way through all those "must try this one of these days" photos on my list. Not sure I have enough ideas for a year, but it is a very worthwhile experience. My PAD gallery is in my signature ...

My Photoblog can be seen here Deceptivemedia, I'm trying to get a photo a day up, mainly as a way to edit all the archived photos I have.

hey guys.. thanks for posting.

I really like your photos deceptive...
and your artwork, helgipalli is really nice. at first i thought they were all grafiti art... and was very intrigued.. once i realized that they were (i think) on canvas... i was disapointed but still liked them very much.

i think i am actually pro-grafitte, i like the art form quite a bit... i think your art would be great grafitte... however i AM against tagging (just scribble some initials)
