Hi Everyone,

I have a question. I recently got my website up and running. My problem is that my profile here comes up first (as well as my engagement announcement from a few years ago) and others. I would like for my website to come before this profile and others. Also, there is omeone with a similar name to mine posting. Some blogmaster thing is referencing my name comes up. Anyway, any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

As sites are added to the search engines they often are given "weight" or importance. In an effort to filter out link farms and other unscrupulous means of attracting attention to a site the search engines add extra value to sites that have other sites link to them. The actual "weight" of a site is also not only influenced by the number of sites that link to it but the quality (or pagerank) of the sites that link to it.

Here is a link to check the pagerank of your site. Compare it to the pagerank of DPC and you will see that even if you have your name here and on your own site, google gives DPC more "weight" and thus it will appear in the search results first.

**edit, wanted to add more***

A search fo SEO or search engine optimization can give you a lot of additional info on this subject but be forwarned building and keeping a site ranked high can be a full timer job in itself.

What might be a great idea is for photog's here to offer to do link exchanges with others in different areas of the world. It will avoid direct competition but also add validity to peoples sites and help in their page rank.

Firstly the thing that has a site score high is content and links. DPC has tons of content and lots of links pointed to it, therefore it's going to have a higher weight. If you simply add your website to your profile, it will give YOUR website more weight. You need to read up on Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Especially check out Google Rule for Webmasters on how to NOT raise your ranking.
