Hi Everyone,

I am wondering how you size your images in photoshop to prevent cropping. Now that I am sizing up to more megapixels... and I haven't even figured this out with my Rebel... I thought I should ask.

How do you prevent cropping from the printer? Do you always allow tons of extra room around your subjects? I don't like this approach, I like framing the subject.

Any suggestions. I bought a great photoshop book... but I must be missing that piece.

I'm going to take a stab at what I think you are asking. When you print a photo as an 8X10 or 5X7, the aspect ratio is different than the image from the camera (Image 3X2 = 1.5, 8X10=1.25. 5X7=1.4). Therefore, part of the picture gets cropped when printed. Normally, the shortest dimension of the image stays as is and the cropping occurs on the end of the picture. If your software tried to stuff your 1.5 ratio image into a 1.25 ratio sack, there would be some nasty distortion and you wouldn't like that either. I know of one photographer that had a special view screen made for his camera that had the 8X10 crop lines included so he wouldn't end up cropping important items in his images when printed.
