My entry:
Was quite disappointed with my score, but this isn't intended as a thread to whine in. My outtakes weren't really "gold" enough, although my personal favourite is:
Some others:
(gold enough, but bit TOO nude)
All shot at quite a long distance, at 100mm, mostly in bulb mode so i could get the timing exactly right. Wireless slave flash off to the model's right, which i only used about half the time - long-exposure fire poi circles act as huge, flaming softboxes, capable of very dramatic lighting :)
Any insightful opinions? Did i submit the wrong shot, or should i have just stuck to something a little more conventional? Regardless of the gold/not gold thing, are any of them at all good in their own right?

I had to search the net to find out what fire poi is. Amazing photos. I get how they were taken, but how did you make the fire trails so broad? |

They are definetaly very, hot photos.
I will be doing some shots involving fire.
I almost did one for the Stationery Challenge.
I would also be interested in the exposure settings of the photos and maybe see a still-shot of what you were twirling. |

Sigh, if this scored 4.9 I'd be very very disappointed too.
I think they are all good, your own favourite I agree with, very good!
Perhaps for some of the shots the flash was a little too harsh, but your entry was very good. I'd easily given it a 8 or 9, you favourite prehaps even 10.
I like best:

I'm beginning to realise that my taste and the taste of the dpc'ers are just so different that I will never get more than my 5'ish scores anyway. Witness my zen score at 4.3 which in my honest opinion is bullshit.

IMHO only, your Entry "The Summoner's Tale"-206th, was a little too centered, which is the spot for static subjects. She was more or less static, the fire circles were not. Only filling the left 1/3 of the photo would make it more dynamic. Perhaps a lower angle shot would emphasize the fire, by making it larger.
The skin tone was golden. Maybe some gold body paint would have kicked it up a notch. "24 Carat Roz"-6th was a more zoomed in-closeup. "Cleopatra"-32nd was another gold-painted nude shot.
The fire was more in focus, thus emphasized more, the the girl's skin, which was actually more golden, but less emphasized. I really think gold body paint would've really beat the 6th place holder.

Having photographed friends spinning fire poi and hoops, I know how hard it can be. These are great :)
I'm learning to spin, but there's noooo way I'm going to be progressing to fire soon, and nude?? Forrrrget it! :D |

this one's my favorite, but I like the wide angle ones except for the fact that they're blurry

Great images. I've been meaning to look for some fire dancers in this area. I used to know one, but that was a couple of years ago. One of these days. ;) |
